Spring time catfish bait

Spring time catfish bait

Postby Mornin Beef » Thu Apr 11, 2013 6:28 pm

The catfishing is so good in the chaumont river I have to do it at least once a year just to get it out of my system. My favorite bait is a worm with chunks of fresh dead sunnies or perch. I never had livers out fish that :fishing: . I like to put a big bell sinker above a two way swivel to heavy mono leader and just open the bail. They can take the line through the sinker without feeling it's weight. Sometimes i get them in 5 ft with a bobber too which is real fun. Anybody got other baits or techniques. :fishing:

Small live bream or crawdads work the best around here when using hooks.

Do you guys have this cray rite of spring where you must have a large bullhead feed too? We get alot of cats bullheading by accident.

I know of a few guys that smoke them. I don't bother with it. Just rip out a gill and send them on their way.

No cats here, but I caught two bullhead last year. Didn't even know they were in that lake. Anyway they were delicious and I wish I could get on them consistently. I caught them on worms while perch fishing.

How'd you eat them? Here we hog dress them which means ripping the skin off with pliers chopping the head and gutting them and frying them whole. Filleting them and rfying them bonefree is worth it just slower.
