Jehler, pa rounded up 300+ smelt last night with some as big as 9 inches. His buddy had 200 or so night before last. I'm homebound this weekend hoping they're still in.

My neighbor has been getting them for a few weeks now by AuGres somewhere. Not a ton though.

everything here is a month late, boyne mountain still had snow in the hills today when we drive by, surface temp on torch last week was 34, ice came of long only 10 days ago, been a weird spring, hit 80 today

We ice fish for them and they are delicous, but spring smelt here taste like shit. They feel like sandpaper and the meat is all mushy. Try them in the oven sometime. Roll them in flour, melt some crisco in a cookie sheet and bake until the tail end gets crispy and snaps off like crispy bacon.

I've only eaten them a couple times. Both times were breaded and deep fried. Tasted decent but not the best by any means.
