Same here. Was about 1' lower than last year. Had a little on shore wind that had the river up a little. Gonna need a troller fan if this keeps up.

Nice. I think I'm gonna try to build a platform on my boat for bowfishing. Summer project.

You can whole roast gar on coals while you do keg stands. Nice layout pics and looks like fun but carp are as photogenic as hen hoodies

Jelly. I almost picked up a beater bow at Canton so I could do some fishing this year.

Got my bow for a buck from a garage sale, Everything else cost me an arm and a leg.
Going back out tomorrow night to hopefully fill a couple more barrels.

Gar are one the worst tasting fish in the world, carp too. I sold a bunch of carp to some cajuns, they made sausage with it. That was the worst shit I've ever eaten. It even stunk when I was cooking it.

I've heard they are supposed to be good to eat. Might have to throw one on ice one night.

I wouldn't eat a carp if you paid me too. Them fuckers are nasty. Fun to shoot though.

Very much so. The meat is deep red, fishy smelling and extra nasty fishing tasting. I don't blame you a bit for not eating it. Well, wait a sec, it can't be that different from a crow.

If it tasted twice as good as that crow I still wouldn't eat it. they make good fertilizer for the apple trees and food plots.

   Haven't tried them as fertilizer, but I remember you telling me about before and I'm going to give it a try on my trees this year. I use them as turtle bait in my turtle nets.

I save a few for trap bait. But I can only fit so many in the bottom drawer of my freezer. Then I gotta get creative.

Cut em into steak like chunks and freeze em in bags or something.

That's what i do. But 5 tons of carp a year is a little excessive, especially for the little bit of trapping I actually do. Not to mention the last thing I want to do at 3am is cut 50 stinking carp into chunks.

Yea, I'd say that's excessive and fuck cutting up carp period. I throw em in a tub and let em get ripe then into the nets they go. I don't get many carp in my nets though. ONly time I really catch any is when they run and then I'm usually after buffalo. I guts in my turtle nets too.

Sell them for the most part, but buffalo ribs are really good. They have really white flaky meat that has a good mild taste.

I shoot a few of those a year. Never ate one though. Is this the kind of fish your talking about?
Sorry about the fucked up picture.

Yup thats it. Thats a pretty good sized one. What was it, about 35-40lbs? When you clean them, I use a carpet knife and cut the skin down the head, across the top of the back and bottom side of the fish on both sides, peel the skin off with catfish skinners and cut out the ribs. They have big rib bones, cut em into about 3 ribs a peice sizes, batter and fry. Hard to beat, they may be a "trash fish" but they eat damn good.

He caught 5 of them that size in about 10 minutes, the coonass the next camp up was fishing all afternoon and hadn't caught anything but a few small catfish. He finally walked over to see what jr was doing different, he came down the gang plank and just as he is asking jr what he's using and telling him he's impressed with the catch jr sets the hook on another one. Jr says "you want to reel it in" the coonass (that will remain un-named but hunted with Rick this fall) replies "fuck my life" turns around and walks back to his own camp lol!
