I've only ever had them smoked. I thought they were delicious. Not croaker delicious, but very good.

I ususally use the perch for pike bait. I'll eat a northern before I'll eat any percidae

We have multiple big statues of the thing here.

Keep 10. You will need a few as practice for cleaning

That's why I don't keep them unless they are 30 or better. Even if you know how to clean them, all you get is scraps off the small ones.

I just like the fact that they're big. They eat like a steak.

that's what I heard and that's why I never kept any. Legal pike are hard to come by where i usually fish though. I've always had a freezer full of panfish and walleye so I never worried about the northerns. But is sounds like I'm missing out.

Considering your age and inexperience with steelhead through the hole I would just give up. The learning curve is too much.

Those are nice. I've never been able to hammer the crappie through ice. I hope you are going back to that spot soon, I'm jealous.

We have a small lake here in town that has some big crappie in it from time to time, but they taste like dog poo. Jgun and myself both have 15 1/2 inchers from there. Its something about the lake that just about everything from it tastes like crap.
