A good day

A good day

Postby Baysider » Mon Aug 20, 2012 7:21 am

We had 3 generations of fishermen on the boat yesterday. We got into some nice specks and a pile of puppy drum. My boy caught some really nice hard pulling pups but they all came up an inch or less short of the size limit. (18 inches) At one point he was pulling up pups two at a time about 16 inches long. I thought he was going to loose the rod, but the man held tight. Dad caught the biggest speck he's had in my life time. The pic is bad, but his fish is actually 3 inches longer than the one in my left hand.
Water temps have dropped by 6-7 degrees in the past two weeks. These cool nights are turning on the late summer/early fall fisheries. My favorite time of year.

Assa, we were catching croaker big enough (2-3 lbs) that they were hitting mirro lures and gulp grubs.

I'm gonna have to take you up on that, sooner rather than later, before yet another summer goes by with me fishing only one day and catching zero croaker.

Tell you what, come on down and I'll put you on some specks. Once you get tired of trout we can go fill the cooler with croaker for you. My boat is licesened so you only have to have your federal reg. number.

I don't know if I have my federal number. I've got a MD saltwater/tidal stamp, which was supposed to meet the federal regs, but don't know if that "qualifies" for other states. I'll have to check it out and see if I need to register something else, along the lines of the HIP program or something. I'm taking you up on this offer before it's over with!

In VA when you buy a license you are automatically registered. I would think its the same for MD. This coming weekend is my birthday weekend. The wife and I are heading to Tangier and Smith Island on our boat to visit family, but other than that just give me a few days notice and pic a weekend.

Sounds good, brother. We have some more friends coming to visit this weekend, anyway, so we'll play it by ear. After that, goose opener on the 1st, deer on the 7th, so it'll probably have to be a Sunday if that works.
