Yesterday was a crazy day not because the fishing was good but because of all the strange things that happened. My new led light seemed to work in the pre dawn darkness cutting through the fog.

Ended up catching 2 stripers, a small king salmon, and hooking a sturgeon that me and Jason (I shoot Spoonies) estimated to be between 7 and 8 feet long. We only saw the fish twice during the 1 hour and 15 minute battle and eventually the fish found a snag to saw the line off in. Using my Abu Garcia 5600 and 15 pound Berkeley big game I was seriously out matched and today I'm feeling it in my arms. It is easily the largest fish I've ever had the opportunity to battle and the power of the giant fish was amazing.

The salmon I had to release because they are not in season and the sturgeon was not only far to large to be legally kept but appeared to be foul hooked as well.

This is one of the stripers we caught.

I would have liked to have got my hands on that fish but hell you can't win them all. When I initially hooked the fish that must have only been laying feet from the bank I thought I had snagged bottom. Then it stripped about 100 yards of line in a mater of seconds it seemed. The beast won this round! Jason had video of the first 10 minutes of the battle but he deleted it before I could at least get some still shots or have him send me the video. I'm sure the commentary was good!

I want to go sturgeon fishing. The last time we were striper fishing out of Tisdale we seen what must have been a sturgeon laying on the bottom through our fiishfinder. We were down the river at that bend where the big concrete pumphouse or whatever it is is at.

Lots of sturgeon get caught out of that hole. It's called Wilkerson pump but all us ignorant red neck locals call it Wilkie pump for some reason.

Anything they can find just like a catfish. Most use ghost shrimp, pile worms, night crawlers, salmon roe, and cuts of eel to catch them.

We stay away from the holes we dump the dead hookers in. Don't need to be around in case the float back up. ;)

I only use them one at a time and they stay on a big meat hook for hours.
