Speckled trout haul

Speckled trout haul

Postby Olemanwifnoteef » Sun Jun 11, 2023 9:01 am

We tore them up in Laguna Madre this morning. They couldn’t resist the root beer vudu shrimp under a popping cork. The largest weighed in at 8.9 pounds. 4 man limit by 8 o’clock. We may go back after them tomorrow if not to sore from this morning rough boat ride to the fish frenzy. Do any of you fellas fish, and if so, what kinds do you catch?

I absolutely love fishing! Up here in North Dakota it’s mostly walleye, northern pike and rainbow trout that I catch. The occasional smallmouth bass, Crappie and bluegill.

I guess I didn’t realize that speckle trout got so big! Sounds like a great time

They get much bigger, I believe the Texas record is 15 pounds plus. My personal best was an almost 11 pound trout caught many moons ago.

Wish I had an 11 pound trout.
I'd eat for a week.

Hahaha.
11 one pounders would be better eating. That 10.93 pound trout spent a couple months at the taxidermist and lives on a wall in Harbor Bait & Tackle in Port Mansfield. I’ll try and beat my record today but it’s going to be a hot, quick trip.

Have been too preoccupied with crying about poor lawn quality.
Maybe I'll go fishing some day.

Anything over 6 lbs is a damn fine trout, and most people never even catch one that big. To have caught an 11 lb'er is a dream come true! Your recent 9 lb'er is one helluva trophy! My largest to date was 7 lb 10 oz, and I am damn proud to have caught it here along the AL coast.

Chase specks all summer in SE La, a big one for us is around 5 lbs these days.

No one's caught an 8.9lb in quite some time over this way, La record is just over 12lb (1950!!), and #2 was more recent (1999!) at 11.99.

We do like the variety down this way, though.
