Having not dove hunted since the introduction of spinners, I found the sunlight/shade observation an interesting one.

Hard to NOT get excited on a covey rise. Music to my ears.

Glad y'all killed a few birds, and found that you could get a teal hunt in same area later, nice!. Gotta "smoke'm while ya got'em" on the doves for sure, as you found, here today, gone tomorrow. Our biggest threat on spreading the doves will be in a few weeks, when everybody starts pulling peanuts out of the ground.

Doves top my "least dependable bird list". Back when I'd hunt them, I could clear them out of the country just by thinking about going.

At least you didn't kill in a beautiful place.

Nothing like sitting in a dove field. I really miss it.

Duck Engr wrote:fowl Activity: Dad again saw 150-200 Thursday afternoon while riding his horse. Either they're only coming in the afternoon or my "scout" is cooking the books to note he's seeing more than are actually there. I'm fine with it in either instance. I've grown to enjoy morning dove hunts much more than afternoon hunts for some reason. We probably saw 50-75 birds.

Have seen way more than enough doves disappear when a hunt is planned to testify on his behalf.
