That was a missed photo op, as he'd just taken a shot at the spinner while I was struggling to get the camera out - and wouldn't do it again.

By looking at most of the different species of water lettuce, one might stop looking. This is the only species that resembles your picture. It is an invasive water plant that needs killing.
Pistia_stratiotes_, maybe one of the more rare varieties.

Looks like a pain in the neck to me, and most likely be uncontrollable if not fought. Hope this is wrong.

I hope cutting it up doesn't make it spread faster.

Bud, while the effort to hunt it down is appreciated, you've bigger worries being along Dorian's path than whatever our new weed is. Please take care there.

What we have is submergent and only grows to the surface, not through it. We set gator lines on Cherry Ridge's marsh yesterday and found it in some of their ponds, too, and their marsh's caretaker met us and took some photos to send to his aquatic weed poisons expert. Hopefully we'll learn something...

Again, you and Elizabeth take care.

Don't know why it didn't show, but thought I'd posted that duck lettuce, ottelia alismoides, seems the most likely candid, though Google pic varied.

Finally saw a few teal a bit ago by making a run through some of Lacassine land company's stuff, 30-40 sure enough bluewinged jewels.

Still none spotted while fishing gators in Cherry Ridge's marsh earlier today.

Thanks, Rick. Elizabeth and I are as ready as can be or care to be. Matthew threw a large oak upon our home, and we are surrounded by large pines and oaks. I left part of myself out there in Louisiana, and have to feed it every now and then. You folk always treated us as best as anyone, and the mottled duck with the shot through his webbed foot flies proud within five feet of me...feet down.

Of course, there is always more to do. Elizabeth sends her best wishes, but she still has that danged mop. Hope you guys and gals have a great time this season.

Dorian passes east of us in a few hours. We are expecting 60-85 MPH winds and 8-10 foot surge, but Dorian spent itself out an awful lot stalled over the Bahamas. It can turn more Northeastward any time now, we hope. All we can do now is batten the hatches and pray. You guys have had your share of these, and we think about you when you do.

We never lost power. Nothing near hurricane force came ashore. We are blessed. Take care. Pray for those North of us. Shoot some teal.

Good to hear, Bud.

Things are picking up: we saw a limit and a sixth of teal at Cherry Ridge this morning.

Finished our Cherry Ridge gators this morning and saw seven more teal in a bunch - maybe yesterday's trio and quartet have become a band...

Folks are starting to talk about hearing about places with a lot of birds, so maybe...

Meanwhile, back at our marsh, Gabe said he was buzzed by 30 that came from Cherry Ridge and went back to Cherry Ridge, so it could be that they're holding "over twice as many as yesterday". Sounds pretty good when put that way...

I saw nothing but woodies and squealers while breaking up the mudhole's latest mud muffins, but all and all the pond looks pretty good. Will get back out one day during the week for some final passes, as well as setting up and brushing.

Hope that's a message about better times coming, John. Still hope to try a few teal in the meantime.
