Arkansas loaded with specks well before snow migration

Big front comes through, snows come on down to us somewhat,as normal

The specks were undisturbed in Arkansas before the front and stayed put,now Arkansas opens and things should look up

There are a few people killing specks here, just because they are not here doesn’t mean there are no specks,I could say there are no more mallards, this is untrue, they just are elsewhere.

Specks are gonna be really tough this year mainly because of the lack of juveniles. But the elite places will kill sooner or later

The migration was delayed in Canada as well from what I heard

Today’s specks Did come in much harder then Last Sunday’s birds. That’s positive.

I pretty much get a response of some kind out of 90 percent of what I call out speck wise, but holding them on the string is extremely tough. This season especially. All my friends are experiencing second split geese way early.

It’s gonna get to where only the top shelf callers at elite places consistently kill. It’s here

Yes I found they were much more responsive today as well. Pretty much every one I called at I got a response or even a hard break.

Pulled 3 specks out of blues and doubled

I had a single mallard come late morning

Worked over 10 large groups of blues, needed about 15 yards lower. But fun to watch

Thought I would have seen more speck traffic, disappointment

We heard more specks than blues (over the fog) for the first time yesterday, so perhaps you will soon.

For comparison, we are seeing or hearing a lot more snows than specks up here. Like Larry’s report said, over 90% snows up here.

The specks are extremely tough to finish

Initial response is easy, keeping them from hanging up before good high percentage range, roughest I have ever seen. The big deal now is finishing them. They appear to be coming hard from initial response,oh but the wheels come off quick.

We have nothing on the ground anywhere close. Straight traffic

Didn't so much as hear a squeak this morning, so maybe they've all headed back to Arkansas - except the bunch our Thornwell guys have been steadily trimming. Jack had another sweet one this morning.

I talked to a very reputable Arkansas guide tonight and they are struggling to finish birds even in the field where they are going.
Bill Daniels saw this himself

Just like I see down here, good initial response, then hang up,and re organize and leave

Horrible hatch, almost all adults— this huge—no young ones to persuade groups

Even the singles and pairs that should just suck in like a vacuum cleaner are not.

So all in all I am very fortunate to have killed some birds, this will be a chip away at them season.

I know one thing I am fixing to do is pull all my duck decoys, they are really fixing to avoid like bullseye “ponds “ just rely on call for ducks. Not targeting anyway

They wanted semi subtle high high pitched cluck with silence between groups of sound. Would not bite on yodel except slow rolled in the turns.

The last hunt totally opposite.

They’ll drive you nuts

Low cluck no good, had to be at the end of the call range high

Glad to see you're still getting them. Not sure where you are, but our guys have clipped daily speck limits near Morse since they started hunting the place Thursday. Made me wish I were with them instead of me.

Thanks. I try to make what I can control right. Birds were really tough.

But we never scratched and we beat 2016 November goose wise so things could be worse

Think I was 8 for 10 with killing at least one speck and I killed a speck limit on every solo hunt I made

So not near as dismal on paper it seems
