Very few specks

Blue/snow flight—-very few specks

This bird was far and came in. I called at sound several minutes before the bird appeared

Very few birds. The guys hid like I asked and shot when I said shoot. Killed all four mallards that came in early on then killed on the few speck chances

Very nice John. Feels good to capitalize on opportunities, however few they may be.

I told my hunters not to expect to shoot and I purposely did not bring a strap. My reverse psychology worked

Way too easy for me not to bring a strap, as I can just drop birds in the boat behind me. But the father in my pair of hunters is developing an interest in old guns and hasn't seen a Model 12 in the flesh, so I'm taking my 16ga this morning. Might not make a bird fly, but will help pass the time. (But if they do fly in meaningful numbers, the old gun best brace itself for life in the marsh.)

If that gun can’t take it nothing can. Those were built to be used hard.

Was reminded that they built them with the safety in the wrong place.

I had a 16 ga Model 12 - It was my uncle's gun. I traded it for a "better gun" when I was younger and more stupid.

Some of my best hunting memories from childhood involve sitting on the boat seat in the boat blind in little chenier from 80 to 87 ish watching dad kill ducks that appeared a mile away with his model 12 and copper plated 7.5’s reloaded in peters blue magic hulls. If I remember that was a few years of the point system leading into 30 and 3 years. Then prior to that it was the 1100,a5,super x 1,870 wingmaster time.

Love the Model 12's look and feel and am intrigued by its "mechanicalness," but it may be too mechanical for my dumb arse. Seems no matter how much I practice for familiarization, I can't find the safety and am plagued by stove-piped hulls that I know are operator error when using it on game. That, and I still have to youtube breaking it down for thorough cleanings.
