why Reduce the limit if population healthy?

I thought if population of bluewings above a certain threshold, don’t remember how many million,we get 16 days and 6?

I am all for preservation but some things are absurd

Whatever keep going in this direction, they’ll take it all away then start crying

I'd assume due to the increased harvest of those in the states during the regular season, but I don't know the actual details that went into this decision. I do know that Pintail will be (1) and scaup will be (1) in the upcoming season. 2019-2020 season limits will be set by the 2018 spring counts, which were low.

I agree on pintail and scaup.

Don't know about (pay attention to) the scaup, but know the pintail cut is in accordance with their management plan, but a teal cut after a year when the summer counts were strong enough for their season to be the liberal 6 bird version is surprising. Still, if they're going to do something off the cuff, I'd rather they cut birds than days...

Our Erie guide argued that scaup numbers aren't down, but that the zebra mussels in the lakes have shifted their migration. I have no idea, but just something I heard.

I was searching local HRC and came across this jewel. I had no Idea the HRC club started here.

That wasn't yesterday, and even then the media was writing history. Tarrant and Wolters had both been critical of trialing and pushing for something like the HRC and it sure seemed to me that they lifted Omar aloft as the figurehead for it.

I joined the Cajun Hunting Retriever Club, then meeting in Lafayette, very near its '83 or 4? start, made a lot of friends and was eventually led to my first "retriever," per se, through its activities. Even covered the first HRC Grand for Gundog magazine. But have to admit being turned off by much of what I saw at club training says and seminars and eventually drifted away from club activities other than to test my young dogs as a means of holding my prone-to-procrastinate training feet to the fire.

Did not hunt this morning. Sat at the camp and watched it rain. No one in our marsh had quite enough enthusiasm to sit in the rain for what we know is out there, or not there should I say. Fixin to eat eggs ham and biscuits and then we'll head out to gather the crab traps and pick up the majority of the decoys. Not much shooting heard around us this morning.

We made it out in the marsh after the rain this morning to pull the crabs traps and had intentions of taking some of the decoys out as well. We saw a a fair amount of ducks, by this years standards anyway, teal, ruddy's scaup and couple gawall. We had birds in our decoys so we decided to leave those alone, other than a slight rearrangement. Our spirits are raised just a bit for the mornings hunt.

We ended up with a little over 3 dozen really nice crabs.

Temp - Mid 40's? - Clear to few clouds later Wind NNW 8 to 10

Me and Blake

Birds - (12) 6 scaup 4 GW teal 1 bufflehead 1 gadwall

Decent amount of GW around this morning and it looked like we had a push of gadwall. Scaup numbers are up but not what we had last year. Ruddy ducks and buffles are in good numbers. I wish I could make a hunt tomorrow morning, and hope they stick around until next weekend to end the season.

Nice haul, glad you were rewarded. That cooler of crabs looks good, but not as good as the stew in the pot. You're doing it right, for sure.

Temp - Mid to low 60's - Overcast with Gusty 30 mph + SW winds rain with lightning in gulf to start the morning. Winds turned west then northwest as the morning progressed and did not(have not) subsided.

Me,Blake and Cyrus

Birds - (18) 9 scaup (1 banded) 9 GW teal

The wind made for an interesting 180 yard pirogue paddle but I managed. The rain came through quickly, early and it was over. We saw a fair amount of gadwall and couple of bunches of pintail. The usual other diver species were there as well. We never had a dull moment in the blind during the hunt, watching large swarms of GW fight the wind. I tried waiting a bit for the wind to subside after the hunt but it never did, so jumped in pirogue and crabbed my way south to the boat location. We'll give it another go in the morning.

All we talked to took limits this morning, mostly teal and many of those fully plumed BW. Some are being mounted. BW are being taken north of hwy 82.

Blake and Cyrus in da blind.

This is my third band this year and I'm not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things. It's surely not working on my lottery ticket purchases.

Woke up to the sound of high winds and cold temps this morning so we decided to sleep in rather than fighting the elements. All other blinds on our place had packed it in yesterday, so what birds are there had no need to move. Twenty four hours of high winds surely had the birds whooped.

That’s a good observation and I think I saw it first hand this morning. Lot of wind yesterday and all night, no flight this morning. Not even the mottleds that were out and about all over yesterday were largely grounded this AM. Glad y’all had a nice one yesterday to close it out.

This is wrong. I took only two bands this year, 1 mottled and 1 Scaup. The GW from the last day of the teal season last year was still on my mind.

Talk to the Polish Commissioner. Supposedly he's heard from peeps that think the reason we are not seeing teal like we used to is because the limit was increased from 4-6 so he wants to utilize the public comment period to gauge how hunters feel about a decrease in bag limit state wide.
