Wonder why they didn't mention the coastal mallard telemetry study and hope it's not gone sideways.

I was thinking the same thing.

Because at this point, it is not an LDWF Waterfowl Section project. Paul is spearheading that project on his own time without LDWF resources.

I've gathered from my cheap seat that it's common, here and elsewhere, for transmitter and at least some follow-up money to come from private donation but suspect follow-up manpower remains an issue.

Given our own population growth and land use changes (and even discounting climate change), I've a fatalistic view of waterfowling's future. But it would be nice to know more about the hows and whys and if we might somehow slow the inevitable's approach.

It will only be fatal for those of us who sit and wait on them. We generally do less while others do a lot more through a plethora of means at their disposal to stop them.

'Spose you could move to Canada, but meaningful numbers of birds will eventually be crowded out of there, too.

I'm a little blind.

Made a trip down to the camp Friday afternoon with the wife, three of the grandbabies and blake, and stayed overnight. I wanted to get measurements and make a plan for moving the through wall stove pipe in the screened cooking area. The previous owners put it too close to the top 2 x 4 in the frame and we made it smolder a time or two, having to douse it with water. I plan to cut 10 to 12 inches off of the vertical 8" pipe at the stove and dropping the pipe above the roof with the rain cap to match. I will install an inner and outer cement board, attaching it to the studs on either side in that frame. I'll cut holes in those slightly larger than needed for the stove pipe and reinstall the existing cover rings.

The screened area is wrapped in 6 mil heavy duty, UV rated plastic during the winter and it stays fairly comfortable during the winter as is in there but were hoping with this fix we can stoke the fire a bit more without worry. We would like to add more heat during those cooler nights.

Blake stopped by our marsh boat launch area after me and my clan left yesterday and found the water level pretty low, even with the rain we've been having. I hope it stays this way, and pray for a stormless remainder of the summer. I would hate to see even a surge of salt water this year. We're also anxious to see what affect, if any, the fertilizer had on the grass at the blind. We'll see it soon enough. We've decided to hunt away from the blind for teal season to avoid trampling the grass before the regular season. We'll set up where I park the boat to transition to the pirogue. It's a comfortable spot with plenty of cover and has a nice pond in a cut between 2 larger bodies of water that seems to be a travel corridor for the fowl, especially teal. We'll have to run this by the LL but I don't think it'll be an issue.

I did take a little time on Friday afternoon to check on the shrimp and show the babies a few fish and gators. We had our hands full... Had a great time.

If I've learned anything at all about granddaughters, it's that Pop-pop Dave is owned. Used to think there was some secret school girls went to to learn how to play us, but the very first granddaughter taught me they're hatched that way.

Sure enough! Think my parents are headed down to ours as well to pick up some things and raise the boat up a bit more

East end of state sure could use a bit of a seawater flush to help with all the Miss. River/spillway water

I think I'm going to stay down there and ride out the storm on the GC water tank like Lieutenant Dan.
