We pulled the lids off our blinds this afternoon with the hope that rain water ballast will ease the strain on anchorage.

Lot of folks do, and could be an especially good idea with new anchorage.

Comeaux how is the marsh looking post Barry? Rick?

Doubt ours has changed appreciably with but a few inches of local rain and river water levels haven't gone up much from upstream drainage.

I haven't been back to the area since the storm, but pictures from nearby would tell me we've had a rise in our marsh, we're too close to the gulf to think otherwise. I'll be down there in a week or so to bring all of my stuff back. I hope this is it for the season.

We can surely hope! We are but a month out from the usual earliest teal sightings, was Aug 11 for me last year but more in the teens and early 20's of Aug on avg.

Don’t know y’all’s location relative to Venice, but I took a tuna fishing trip down there on Tuesday and water levels were definitely up. Northbound of 23 was still flooded on Monday in a couple places but had receded by Wednesday when we left. Several road spots close to the marina were also under water, including a couple of the docks, but it looked like this wasn’t an uncommon occurrence based on some additional walkways that looked like they started as temporary but had been there a while.

This came in the mail yesterday, and when my wife handed it to me yesterday evening I gave her a hug. She smiled and shook her head...LOL! I'm starting to get that tingle in my brain.

Water is back down to about normal on our end, we are well north of Venice but have same impacts from easterly winds. Venice is also unusually high due to continued VERY high levels of MS River, regardless of storm impacts.

Speaking of a high Mississippi River, I didn’t take this photo, but drove by this same place headed down 23 and it was crazy to see a barge so high up on the levee!

Edit: upon further thinking, I don’t recall seeing a railroad along 23 like is shown in the picture, but it still demonstrates what I saw while riding.

Yep, you should see the cruise ships. Wild scene down this way; this is really really late in the year to have the river so high, further demonstrating just how much water the MS Flyway got over the course of the winter and early spring.

Did see scads of woodies and some mottleds and black-bellies riding around Laccasine Land Co's stuff today. Couple bucks, too.

We should have some official survey numbers in the next few weeks I would think; initial reports from state departments doing their own surveys have been promising

From what I've read on the link Darren provided we should be covered in BW very soon. Looking forward to Rick's reports from the field. He's like the Jim Cantore of waterfowl sightings.

This "Jim" doesn't expect to see teal for another month.

The wife and I made a trip south early this morning hauling the travel trailer and other things we had moved from the coast when Barry decided to pay us a visit. This thing was near the camp as we were headed home. I asked him politely to get off of the road, even blowing my horn, but he didn't listen. I sure hope no one hit this guy. I'd not want to run over one of these at that size with any speed.

That has wreck written all over it, especially at night!

I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed as many road kill gators as I have this spring/summer on my trips to the marsh.

Sure felt like this could be one of them when I aired the bug this morning, and he's plainly thinking fall, too. But we're still a long way off. Did get into a mess and a half of fulvous in flooded pasture yesterday, and that'll have to do for a while.

Lovely video. I think Pintail have taken their approach method to a field by watching geese. It takes them forever to make it down, and many times they abort and fly off, especially over my blind.

Spending this hot Saturday going back in time.

I took the opposite approach and drug out my September decoys for triage - but that's as far as I got before deciding it was already too hot and going back inside. Probably look them all over and start draining the wounded in the morning...
