I do not know if the upper part of the Prairie Pothole Region received any rain for the ducks to have a second chance at nesting, but I too anticipate an average to better than average season. If not I will have shotgun shells for next year.

We're all striving to catch your production!! I'm not looking for a banner year; I'm just fine with average, something we were miles and miles away from for the 2018-2019 season of so many extremes. Crazy warm to our north in December and much/most of January, extreme precipitation on the flyway.......just give me average of each of those factors and we'll be fine.

Hell the most recent episode of Habitat Flats' lil video series was titled The Warmup, and discussed their struggles in December 2018 with stale birds, no weather. See below

The density numbers I find very interesting. Couldn't find the one including Canada. There are a lot of ducks packed into a relatively small area. I don't think it's a small fraction, but I believe the numbers in Canada are 2 or 3 times that in the U.S. Definitely the far more important area. The Prairie State portion on the other hand would have to grow by a factor of 10 to be but a small fraction

Came across this photo of mine from a January 2010 hunt just south of Gueydan on an epic weather day, my favorite field weather for good reason. Was bitter cold, we broke ice on the field, ripping north winds.

Was wondering how many still see/hear/harvest the lil lesser Canada's mixed in with specks or otherwise. That same season I also killed one on a Cheneyville area hunt. Also recall seeing a little group of them standing in a field below Lake Arthur that year if I'm not mistaken.

I see a very few from the Thornwell area through the camp. Don't recall even hearing one in Klondike or south of Gueydan last year.

Stinkin' flooded corn's holding them up, too.

Thanks for heads up, made me check again on it. Still a very long way out with a train load of uncertainty. Have not seen anything that puts it in the Gulf yet though, much less SE La.

Checked out the Delacroix lease on Friday afternoon. Blinds are in good shape but looks like we've lost 2 of 3 dog stands that presumably floated off in high tides of Hurricane Barry. Water was on the high end so feed was hard to evaluate but still saw a fair bit in our northern two blinds, the least feed was in south pond which is the norm.




Sunday morning Johnny and I headed out to the public grounds we chase teal on and sure enough saw a good handful buzzing about and using same areas we've seen in last two years. No groups or anything, just pairs and singles. Hopefully those numbers build by next Saturday......fun to say that, NEXT Saturday. Glad it's not THIS saturday........going to be plenty hot and could use a bit more time for more birds to arrive.

Darren - we are going to Hackberry to work in the marsh this weekend, actually Friday and Saturday.
Friday temp 97 and clear, Saturday 96 and clear - going to be hot.
Next weekend - Teal Season - Friday nite 77 degrees, Saturday 90 degrees, Saturday nite 77 degrees, Sunday 89 degrees ( a cold snap).

Yea its going to be a warm opener......as if that's anything out of the ordinary though.

Oddly enough, the log says that on the hunts we had the most ideal conditions (particularly cool, good north winds).......we did the poorest.

Maybe the weather blows them out more than blows them in, in my experience at least. I love a good breeze, but mostly just to move the decoys and help with the bugs.

I don't know that that's so, but I know a lot of hunters here believe it is. Have never browsed the logs to see how it's effected us.

That’s been my experience as well.

Darren are you following the weather report of a tropical wave coming across Florida and into the Gulf. Projected path puts it at Shell Beach area.

Yea sure am; low development odds for the moment but still looks like it could make for a rainy sunday-monday. Looks like good winds for the weekend though, and from an ideal direction for our travels.
