Build those memories brother, and take lots of pics, especially of you with them! A pic on canvas from the hunt would make a great Christmas gift for them, and they will smile and remember, every time they look at it.

I never had anything better to do than going trout fishing with my grandfather. Both grandfathers had stopped hunting by the time I was old enough and was really disappointed when my grandfather decided to not take me and my brothers trout fishing. Although, by that time I was old enough to take my younger brothers and did it until I moved out of town.

I hope they are like I was and they will be your faithful companions for a long time.

I got dismembered from the this site - took a while to get back on.

We went to the marsh this past weekend - water is very high. We have 8 blinds and 3 of them are under water.

The high water is taking its toll again on our vegetation, the water levels had dropped earlier in the year and the vegetation started to respond, but since teal season the water is high.

We went in the marsh on Friday to pump the blinds that were able to be pumped - I saw 1 flight of teal about 25-30. There were more grey ducks around but not the amount I was hoping for.
We went back in the marsh on Saturday, did not see any teal, and about the same amount of greys I saw on Friday.

Cold front coming on Thursday, hope we get some more ducks but don't need any more rain.

I will be taking 2 grandsons hunting this weekend for the youth hunt, hoping a few ducks will come by for them.

I'm sure they'll get to pop a few caps, best of luck! Weather should be great

Saturday, Nov 3, 2018 - Youth hunt

Hunters: Matthew and William

Weather: Calm at LST to 10 mph around 9:00, cool to warm temps

The boys did not have their A game for shooting this day, although William did have a triple on Greys but this was more luck than skill as proven on other shooting opportunities. Abby did well, made a long retrieve on a broken wing Grey duck she tracked through the grass. Our water went down by 6 inches from the previous weekend, still high but not as bad.

Duck totals: 1 - Spoonbill, 1 - Wigeon, 1 - Blue wing teal, 1 - Green wing teal, 8 - Gadwall, and all it took was 4 boxes of shells.

Deeper than ideal water must not have bothered the grays too much.

I will be in a seminar all day tomorrow, get home load my truck and Abby, pick up Buddy then head to the camp.
Hope all of you who are able to hunt this weekend get your limits, and be safe.

Saturday, Nov 10, 2018 - opening day of duck season

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 48 degrees with 17 mph NNE wind - had a little wind chill factor

We had ducks coming from every direction, but with so many hunters shooting most ducks flared off with all the shooting. Abby did a good job finding ducks in the grass, we did not hunt one of our blinds in the middle of the pond. We had 6 blinds hunting 5 of the 6 blinds got their limits, the blind that did not limit had 2 young boys but had opportunities.

Totals: 7 - Gadwall, 4 - Greenwing teal, 1 - Bluewing teal, 3 - Snow Geese (they came over blind with mojos running)

Sunday, Nov 11, 2018

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 50 degrees with 12 mph NE wind

What a difference a day makes - Saturday we saw ducks everywhere, Sunday was a lot slower day. We had 3 hunters leave on Saturday and 6 hunters partied a little too much to get up on Sunday. We had 4 blinds hunted on Sunday and none of them got a limit.

Totals: 5 - Greenwing teal, 3 - Spoonbills.

Leaving for the camp tonight. Hoping the ducks that left the marsh on Saturday have returned and the water in the marsh has gone down.
Everyone be safe, good luck and limits to all.

Friday, November 16, 2018

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 42 degrees, with dead calm wind

Saw some large flights of teal early, but none came to our blind. We hunted until 10:30 hoping the wind would pick up but we were wrong. We are not seeing the Grey ducks we normally do during the 1st split and the teal are not cooperating.

Total: 3 - Green wing teal, 3 - Gadwall, 1 - Spoonbill

Saturday, Nov 17, 2018

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 50 degrees East wind at 3 going to 5 mph

We hunted a blind that was flooded opening weekend, it is an island blind in the middle of the pond, and our southern most blind on the lease. Again did not see a lot of ducks, but what we did see responded well. Abby made a long retrieve on a diving Mottled duck that she would not give up on.

Totals: 6 - Greenwing teal, 2 - Blue wing teal, 2 - Gadwall, 2 - Mottled ducks

We were the only blind to limit Saturday

Sunday, November 18, 2018

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 52 degrees wind East at 5 to 8 mph

We had our best wind speed of the weekend, but it did not help with the ducks. We saw very few ducks of any kind, and they did not want to play with us. We heard very little shooting in our area, I think our ducks have left. We have a weak cold front coming Monday hope this moves in a few ducks. I am taking the same 2 grandsons hunting Tuesday and Wednesday that went for Youth weekend.

Totals - 3 - Spoonbill, 2 - Green wing teal

Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Hunters: William, Matthew and I with Abby (grandsons)

Temp: 48 degrees, wind NE 5 - 8 mph

Lots of ducks moving, some moving too fast for the young hunters. The boys did shoot better than when I took them for the youth hunt. They were so proud they both shot at the same time and killed a mallard drake - their first. We don't get opportunities on mallards very often.

Totals: 9 - Green wing teal, 7 - Gadwall, 1 - Mallard, 1 - Spoonbill

A good time was had by all.
