Bringing my brother Corey and cousin tomorrow for the cold clear with NNE. Ducks are moving later in the day up here it seems so we’ll enjoy the sun and ride it out till at least noon.

Corey is bringing Boone, so it’ll be his first field hunt. Hope he gets to run down a few, and he should be able to see and mark the birds.

If the water's as shallow as a decent waterfowling flood should be, he'll be in hog heaven.

Yesterday’s hunt and today’s weather encouraged me to sleep in today and wake up to Tricia’s blueberry pancakes.

Haven't had Tricia's, but blueberry pancakes sure sound like a wise choice. (Went to Ed's blind to see if his mouse climbed the cane ramp he'd left for it or needed manually evicted before bringing my boat to the house this morning and saw nothing to change my relief that it's over here.)

Really like that speck/duck decoy mix in first pic, plan to roll that out next year. We're told rice will be back in the field this season

I guess I forgot to post the log

Date: 1-27-19

Time: finished around 2 I believe

Location: dakota’s lease

Cloud Cover: mostly clear

Wind Direction and Velocity: calm and then light variable to finally 5-10 Westerly

Temperature: warmed up quick

Barometer:

Moon phase:

Special Notes: 2 guys that I’ve brought the last 5 years and taught how to hunt a pit got a lease this year and returned the favor today.

Waterfowl Activity: loads of spoons with teal and gads coming off reservoir to our north and a pretty good speck flight coming off state WMA refuge to the north.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: the later in morning it got the better the ducks and specks worked

Hunters: dakota chase Corey and I

Guns:

Malfunctions: Corey and chase had a few misfires

Dog(s): Boone

Special Equipment: mojo on remote

Kudos: fun last day picking up full plumaged spoon drakes. Dakota has been wanting me to come hunt with him and call the specks they have, more than what I have in my area. Called in 5 to the decoys feet down for them, but we only managed 2......

curses: invited my other brother to join us but he declined then regretted it

Birds By Species:
10 green winged teal
10 shovelers ( 9 drakes)
4 gadwall
5 specks

That was a good one for sure; think we killed ONE spoon in Bunkie for the season, just unbelievable. Sure did miss them, glad you got on them at the end.

Heck of a way to end a season and sounds like your buddies have a prime location near a reservoir and wma rest area.
