Time: finished around 7:30

Location: marsh blind 4

Wind Direction and Velocity: calm to light northerly

Special Notes: the best teal shoot this blind has produced in about 6 years.

Waterfowl Activity: good flight out of the north starting around 6:40

Waterfowl Responsiveness: they came to our pond as eager as I’ve seen them come in a few years.

Hunters: Ryan and I then Corey and his 2 guests came and got theirs

Guns: put a skeet choke in my trusty 2000 model browning gold and it proved to be a very good combo with my 3’s

Malfunctions: none

Special Equipment: the only difference I can denote from my setup versus the other 2 blinds were the use of 2 full size mojos on 8 foot 1/2” rebar to get them higher off the water and a lucky duck rather than the smaller versions of the mojos.

Kudos: I put my gun down after the 2nd volley and let Ryan get the next 4 for our 12. Corey and his 2 guys shot real well too.

AND NO WASPS!

Pan seared skin on teal breasts that have been “dry aging” in the fridge since Saturday. Roasted the potatoes in the rendered fat. These birds were extremely fat.

Special Notes: was nice to not sweat and enjoy the cooler, although damp morning

Waterfowl Activity: not much... had 2 larger groups come and didn’t present the best shootings opps then a group of 3 came on Corey’s end that he dispatched in 2 shots. Was hoping they’d move all morning but was pretty slow

Waterfowl Responsiveness: not great

Time: left at 8...once the heavy rain started

Location: mostly drained lake bed

Cloud Cover: high to low and heavy

Wind Direction and Velocity: light NE off and on

Temperature: comfortable

Special Notes: was neat seeing the lake I grew up hunting drained down to the channel and oxbows

Waterfowl Activity: thought we were gonna burn em then it died

Waterfowl Responsiveness: big bunch and group of 3 came pretty

Hunters: Corey and I and my friend coworker Garrick from North Carolina who had never teal hunted before and had never killed a blue winged teal, but loves duck hunting and I can’t wait to bring him to my lease during the season. They get hyped about shooting a wood duck limit in NC, and anything else is a bonus.

Kudos: Garrick got to see a big bunch drop from up high and got his first 3 blue winged teal.

curses: we let the big bunch pass twice hoping they’d slow down, but the 3rd pass was a very close high speed pass that made it tough shooting. 2 birds were not edible... which really bothers us when we do that.

Cool seeing a lake you know get drawn down, and always a learning experience for the future.
