Our pit holds 2,250 gallons of water if completely full based on the volume equation I googled yesterday. Sure beats a 5 gallon bucket.

I’ve yet to see a pit in northeast LA with a lid. I think it’s due to the larger size of the pits up here and the various pit designs versus the standard smaller pits you see further south.

Looks about like the Bunkie blind I've referenced, that has a 3-piece lid. About a 4-5 man rig?

It’s 12 foot long with an additional dog box on each end

I am giddy. May try to take the boat for a spin tomorrow afternoon just to say I did. I live all summer for the first fall “front”. This isn’t exactly what I usually have in mind but I’ll take it.

Was paddling a pirogue back from yesterday's last nest when the first northerly gusts hit here, and that the front was so dry made me feel pretty dumb for sweating half the day to beat it. October in July here this morning, and the dog's going to be mighty disappointed that I'm working and he's not.

'Course, it's all just a ruse to soften us up for August.

I keep seeing all these reports of "feels like teal season in July"........they are not teal hunting in Louisiana, clearly. This is October......keep an eye out for early grays!

Got my main squeeze back today. She went down back on January 5th due to a magazine spring failure. Thankfully I had the new maxus, so I kept on without missing any of the precious remaining days in January, although I did not plan to use the new one in some of the adverse weather it ended up hunting in.

Back to the Gold, I had my trusted gunsmith go over it and we changed out the action tube and spring. I also ordered the magazine upgrade kit from sure cycle since my magazine spring has failed a few times since buying the gun new in 2004. Inside of that magazine tube seems to retain moisture pretty good. Going to bring it back to him in February for a good post season cleaning to prevent any corrosion during the off-season.
