Might be yawning common on the east coast, but blacks were a prize in my part of the Mid West. Cograts.

Thanks guys! This year has been amazing for me so far with only one zonk on the books (knock on wood) I’m on pace for a record year! Plus my first duck is going to the taxidermist!

Gotta hand it to my wife who gave her blessing to hang a dead duck on our wall and understanding the sickness I’m plagued with come every fall called hunting...

Congrats on the black duck!

FYI my dog's going into fourth season with an Avery vest, so far so good. Combo zipper/velcro closer but the zipper is very well built/overbuilt and it zips on easily every time surprisingly. You might try it

Date: 11/12/18

Time: 0615

Location: The Property

Cloud Cover: Cloudy

Wind Direction and Velocity: 5 mph from NW

Temperature: 29 degrees

Special Notes: Everything has 1/2 of ice except a 50 yard hole right in front of the blind... Yahtzee!

Waterfowl Activity: Big groups of northern mallards everywhere.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: Birds wanted in but with little wind they had too much time to circle and bust me... I need to get s jerk rig out there as flat water is hurting me.

Birds Harvested: Pair of Mallards

Hunters: Just me

Guns: Browning A5

Malfunctions: My A5 had two failure to fires with no primer strike. My guess is the action isn’t closing all the way. I’m really disappointed with this gun and will probably hang it up for the rest of the season.

Dog(s): none today

Special Items: 3 mojos

Curses: Two failure to fires on birds feet down in the decoys leading to missed opportunities and should have had a limit of mallards.

Kudos: ...

Gun malfunctions are sure frustrating, but It's still better than sitting in this office. Nice pair! and your duck pond looks really good.

I’ve seen two different A5s malfunction in the field the last two years. One going click like you mentioned and the other a single shot.

is your vest the basic one or with the handle holes?

The vest was a Northern Flight Cabela's Brand vest with hand holes for lifting the dog into a boat. The zipper was to the left of the velcro and uncovered by the velcro. I haven't seen this version offered by Cabela's before leading me to believe it a Bass Pro bastardised product... explaining the poor quality and design failure.

Well it’s over... d/t circumstances beyond my control I wasn’t able to get out duck hunting again ... I did drop the hammer on a decent meat pole 8 pointer on the 2nd to last day of rifle season.

I have 3 more weeks to try and run an arrow through one of the big boys still out there otherwise ... let the end of hunting season depression set on..

Yep, great looking kid, and that buck looks to be a real chunk under that little rack.

Surprisingly it was... after taking out all the roasts, tenderloins, backstraps, chops, and steaks...there was still 34lbs of trim for grinding...

As for the vest, think it's this one:
