This week seems to moving at a good pace for me with some shopping and packing for the camp. Blake and I will be out in the marsh on Friday afternoon to make one final check on things. I'm still getting some not so good phone videos from the refuge manger, one at daylight yesterday morning showing many moving black dots on his wide scan, so I'd say it's loading up.

Can we pitch in and buy this cat a decent phone to send better videos from?

The bug and I enjoyed a nice brisk first-light hike around some Klondike rice, but all we saw was Klondike rice. Didn't hear a bird, either, but it's not that unusual for us to get them just behind, rather than before or with a front, so hope remains. Hear from farming friends of at least one good bunch of Klondike ducks a couple miles, as they fly, from where we were, and others may already be about. Don't know or care, going anyway.

It's pretty spooky whats happening.

There's hope!

A Cooper's hawk just hit my pigeon loft's hog wire: first I've seen since spring of 2018. Did not see, much less lose a homer to, a bird hawk at our place last "winter". Used to always show up here just before the specks in October, so he's way late, as they still are, but at least something's migrated.

Delayed migrations are a fact of life. You would have thought with the weather activity we had prior to the survey we would have gotten closer to LTA's.

With that said the areas that typically do well on opening weekend will do well and we have two good fronts to keep things lively for a while. We just need that activity to continue.

Rick, I'm going to predict a mixed bag limit for the mud hole tomorrow morning of gadwall, jacks, teal, spoobill and a possible wood duck or two. Can't rule out a mottled.

I'd throw in a possible Squealer and Pintail to that Mudhole list too Dave

If it's up to me: no free passes. Well, maybe the little spoon that would be too much like kicking a puppy.

Really depends on who draws my blind. Same family and their guests have been hunting opening weekend in our marsh for forty-some(?) years, and some in their group are hunters and some are guys who hunt...
