Date: 9-14-19 teal season opening day

Time: hunted till 9:15

Location: marsh

Cloud Cover: hazy to east early then clear

Wind Direction and Velocity: none then light ENE around 8 then 5ish

Temperature: 85 when we left. Very warm early with no wind

Barometer:

Moon phase: full

Special Notes: we shot pretty good

Waterfowl Activity: started moving around 6:45 and stayed steady till 8:30

Waterfowl Responsiveness: some came perfect some didn’t

Hunters: me Ryan Corey John david Andrew

Guns:

Malfunctions: we goofed on a big bunch right over the decoys. Had 5 on water and when the rest of the bunch came nobody called it.

Dog(s): Boone (Corey’s dog)

Special Equipment: several spinners

Kudos: we shot very well on what came

curses: the big bunch

Birds By Species: 24 blue winged teal (18 drakes)

Nice hunt. What part of the state? Surprised no other reports on here but yours and mine on an opener.

Rick usually reports daily but the other guys tend to report at the end of their weekend.

Time: left at 9 am

Location: same as yesterday

Cloud Cover: clear

Wind Direction and Velocity: NE wind light to pretty decent by sunrise

Temperature: more comfortable than yesterday in wind

Barometer:

Moon phase: full

Special Notes: brought my office buddy David on his first early season marsh teal hunt

Waterfowl Activity: very slow

Waterfowl Responsiveness: none, could not break the few passing groups we saw

Hunters: me David David his GF and Brooks

Guns:

Malfunctions:

Dog(s): brooks yellow lab

Special Equipment: 5 spinners

Kudos: we killed the 3 that came in

curses: no flight, so disappointing after yesterday’s strong flight.

Birds By Species: 3 blue winged teal


Photo Ops: no reason to take one

Time: packed up at 8:30

Location: public

Cloud Cover: clear to clouds

Wind Direction and Velocity: on and off to decent easterly

Temperature: felt cooler picking up than putting out

Barometer:

Moon phase: didn’t see it

Special Notes: my wife’s first September teal hunt

Waterfowl Activity: every group we saw worked either us or the others

Waterfowl Responsiveness: lost first 3 or 4 groups to other party hunting NE of us not far enough

Hunters: Corey, billy (his father in law, jared, Tricia and me

Guns:

Malfunctions: None

Dog(s): Boone

Special Equipment: 4 spinners

Kudos: we killed 8 or 9 out of each group and found a cripple or 2 the others didn’t go after

Made a shrimp run to grand chenier and picked up 50 lbs from a new friend.

curses: would have had our 30 if other guys would have been further away or not been there, but it’s public and we shot way better than they did

Birds By Species: 19 blue winged teal

Heck of a good one to introduce her to how teal hunting can be. That's what'll get her (and all of us) to go again next year
