I miss duck hunting!!

Wish I could say the same, but I took such a beating that I never even went for specks after ducks closed.

Hope to find an ember to nurse into flame by summer, but just now...

I wish I had that feeling as well. It was a chore this year. Going through the motions gets old.

More power to you, MB. I've had my fill for a little while, tired of being tired, piling up miles on my truck, and being away from the family.

At least for fishing season we all go to the camp, not just me, and we get in some family activities like crabbing in the boat, etc.

OK - get ready - 6 weeks from tomorrow is the start of teal season.

The bug and I have been doing our version of Chinese fire drill marks attempting to trip him up with five or six bumpers tossed and/or launched 360-degrees in rapid succession. Been a great reminder of what a pee-poor marker I am and, thankfully, how much better at it he is. Knocking wood before we lose one of the dummies I keep thinking we might have.

But our shallow (gator safe) water is getting so soupy that he's limited to a single fire drill and/or long water blind or two during our morning exercise rounds and will soon be all but shut down for August's dog days. Thankful for the coolish breezes we've been blessed with, but really looking forward to September's cooler ones...

“Air you can wear” has shown up right on time. Tried to take the pup for a walk last night at almost 11 and there wasn’t much relief to be had. My least favorite month of the year is upon us.

70-72 for the lows to start off Aug, I’ll take it.

Had no idea that little breeze was coming. Nice surprise.

Just returned from 5 days in CO, UT, WY and MT.......lows in upper 40's and 50's were common, felt like I'd cheated the rest of summer at home and went straight to Oct/Nov.

Saw good many ducks in ponds/lakes/wetlands up that way so was neat to catch a glimpse of their summer activities. Before I'd left, though, put new batteries in the spinner remote to confirm full function of my teal season toy collection. Making plans to go check blinds in next few weeks.

We are going back to the marsh on August 15 to finish various repairs on the blinds. Have not seen the marsh since early June and it was looking very good then. Hoping the water in the marsh has receded after the storm in late July that went to Texas.
Our teal season has not been very good the last few years, but I am still looking forward to Sep 12.
Last teal season we killed 87 teal, on 36 man days = 2.42 teal per man per day

I got a report this afternoon - oil field workers have seen some blue wing teal in our marsh

And off to Belize they go...

A few reports yesterday online of some birds in fields.

And off goes the mass hysteria that "they're early" and we're going to miss them in September because they already passed through.

We already have had a very popular FB posting about a guy that saw wads of grays getting up from the shoreline of lake borgne. Yep, early grays, in first day or so of August, yep, definitely. Surely not families of mottleds so common to the area, nope, definitely not.

We went to the camp this past weekend - we went in the marsh to finish the blinds we put in earlier in the summer. Saw about 3 groups of 8 - 10 blue wing teal. The water in our marsh is the lowest it has been this time of year for a long time.
The marsh grass around 5 of our blinds had to be trimmed so we can see the ducks. 26 days until Teal season - but who's counting.
