See Eric’s opening day report...

Glad to see everyone’s name lit up showing new posts and scrolling through each one!

Friends killed 2 this morning and didn’t see or hear much else.

Date:9/21/19

Time: stuck around til 9 , guys that hunted yesterday said some birds were moving later

Location: refuge pond (usually do not hunt this area, but due to salvinia it’s one of our only options

Wind Direction and Velocity: enough out of the East I was happy to watch empty skies til 9

Temperature: pleasant

Special Notes: hunted with boat ride behind us, might as well should’ve hunted out of it but I wanted the dog to be able to see better

Waterfowl Activity:very little

Waterfowl Responsiveness: didn’t whale at any. Singles ands pairs couldn’t be budged off track. Big group came in on a string

Hunters: Mike and I

Malfunctions: mikes shooting

Dog(s): Boone

Special Equipment: 4 mojos

Curses: need more birds

Kudos: didn’t shoot a cripple so Boone could have some more excitement

Birds By Species: 2 bwt

Photo Ops:Image

Lagniappe: might would’ve had an op at a group of 4 had they not passed 10’ overhead and probably saw shiny boat. Felt bad to make Mike (70-75yrs old) stand outside of boat and not in his comfy boat blind that I was sure would flare birds.
My goal for this morning was to pull the trigger for Boone dog

“They did what they were supposed to do we just didn’t do what we were supposed to do.....” I was getting ready to rag on your buddy a little bit but he redeemed himself with the “...or I didn’t” at the end haha

Good catch. Very true statement and he will own it every time. When he’s on he’s on, and vice versa. No in between

Slacking on my reports
Date:9/22/19

Time: packed up around 830

Location: public

Cloud Cover: none

Wind Direction and Velocity: 0

Temperature: warm

Special Notes:

Waterfowl Activity: saw less than 100

Waterfowl Responsiveness: most of what we saw worked and shot into

Hunters: cousin Dave & Gf Josey, cousin Jared came late (7) after getting off shift work

Guns:

Malfunctions: decoys too close and weren’t able to shoot the biggest bunch that came in without turning them to dust

Dog(s): Boone

Special Equipment: 5 mojos

Curses: limited open water causing us to setup on top of decoys

Kudos: shot well

Birds By Species: 13 bwt

Lagniappe: woodies covering us up , giving Boone real good practice on holding steady.. also the first group of 15 landed and we couldn’t see them right at shooting time. Too close to shoot and still bring something home anyways

Date:9/27/19

Time: happened so fast you couldn’t enjoy it

Location:public

Cloud Cover: zero

Wind Direction and Velocity: also zero

Temperature: 67-68. Felt nice

Special Notes: most teal I’ve seen to date... large bunches coming from high and low

Waterfowl Activity: couldn’t ask for better

Waterfowl Responsiveness: I believe every group that saw the spread we shot

Hunters: cousin John, with cousin Jared coming after shift work about 715

Guns:

Malfunctions: needed 4 more guns

Dog(s): Boone

Special Equipment:1 lucky duck

Curses: I forgot my blind bag at home.....

Kudos: cousin John had 23 shells and another teal call to split with me and we shot well..
Boone is heck on cripples.

Birds By Species: 18 bwt

Photo Ops:

Lagniappe: absolutely got covered up. They kept flying as we picked up and left. At the very end we got to watch a big bunch drop from way high and make the sweet “jet” sound to their descend into the pond we were hunting.

Date: 9/28/19 (see Eric’s post)

Curses: public land crowd

Kudos: Boone found 2 more I never would have... think I actually burned some of his energy when retrieving 8-10 birds in a row. He’s a blast to watch put his head under water and come up with a bird..
Them IC chokes are deadly on tight flying groups.

Sleeping in the last morning of teal.

Logged 76 blue wings for the season and Boone got 74 of them. Thank goodness for public land hunts to boost #s.
Marsh lease is in bad shape, too afraid to admit it could be like that going into Nov unless salvinia miraculously dies off.
