Good beginner duck call

Postby Saltmarshkid » Mon Mar 11, 2013 9:00 pm

So I've been duck hunting for a little while now and after seeing my friend use his duck call to get birds to turn and commit I've come to the conclusion that its time for me to venture out and get my own and learn to use one. Just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of good practice to learn how to call but most important what calls are good for new comers?

I learned on a double reed zink PH-2, but I think I would recommend learning in a single reed. I've heard that the RNT quackhead calls are good to start on. What's your price range?

RNT Original, single reed calls are the only way to go.

yup. I'm a wet caller and I'd have to blow in the other end after each duck I worked or it would stick.

It sticks on occasion but sounds sweet and is easy to use.

Is it a bad call? Everyone seems to think they are awesome, so what makes it not a beginner call?

its a real easy call to run, but if you ever plan on transitioning to a high end single reed I would stay away from it.

I'm having a little bit of difficulty switching over to my new single reed because I was used to the way a double reed blows. It's a whole new ball game IMo.
