Some guys just can't help it. I hunted with a guy last year who hailed his brains out at every duck within sight. After no response from several groups he says "huh, maybe I should lay off on the next group". Very next flock he is on the call.
I just straight meat honkered.

It's all you can do. I've cut back a lot in my old age. When I was 15 to 20 years old I never shut up but had a great spot then so it didn't much matter.

You'll get it in know time buddy, just keep practicing. It's different but doable for sure.

I'm getting pretty quick. Only had it for a week or so. It's the new style daisy cutter. You can get a lot of sounds out of a single reed that I never could out of a double.

So you think the OP is going to read through these 3 pages that we racked up in 2 hours?

I hope so. Does anyone ever really read every page? I never read all of the 200 post thread, just jump to the last one.

I read almost every post on a topic I'm participating except the 250post thread. Then I just jump in if I feel like it.

You don't need decoys or a call with that. Just sit on the bank shoot at the flock that comes in, watch em go back up circle and come back down to get shot at again until the whole flock is gone. Allegedly.

Not looking to spend crazy money right away and be discouraged, I'd go up to probably like 50, and learn on it and move up from there

A wise choice. I've found (although it's certainly not gospel) that most high-end calls are very much harder to run well than the cheaper ones. Not entirely sure about duck calls, but it's certainly true for goose calls. And honestly, if you can learn the fundamentals well on a $30 call, and it works, there's no need whatsoever for an "expensive" call. What works best for you is the best call.

Don't do anything DuckHammar says he's a call hoarder. Has a path through his house to the toilet.

I found the opposite to be true for goose calls. My SMH is the easiest call Ive used, but unfortunately is like $130ish new.

I have a canada hammer collecting dust on a shelf. I've called geese with it, but no matter how much I practiced, I just couldnt get good. I bought the EX3 last summer and am very happy with it. I have a winglock duck call that I love, but I am by no means a competition caller, just good enough to bring a few down to shoot at. Calling is not as important for me as scouting and setup anyway.

To the OP, consider a whistle call and learn to do the drake mallard. One of the deadliest calls I use, but use it very sparingly, too much and you sound like somethings wrong.

Asking the best beginer duck call will get you a huge variety of answers. I started on a Hobo ICU2. Very easy to blow and learn on but what you would learn easier on is up to you. Try multiple before you buy.

Blow a Hobo if you want, I heard they can be pretty hard though. Not my cup of tea.
