I'm gonna make a fortune selling you $15 gloves for $200 or have a riot watching your blue fingers dropping off..

When I was a framer in MN, I'd work outside for 9 hours wearing jersey gloves. They do a very good job, but are underrated. As far as getting them wet, I've never understood why this is even an issue. Seriously- take them of for the 10 minutes it takes to do something wet. Are you all that fragile?

You've never layout hunted have you?

You've got a 50-50 shot at being wet before you ever even get to where you're going to hunt.

If you can handle a 10-15 mile boat ride in 30-35 degree temps in 2-3' waves without gloves, hunt for 2-4 hours without gloves, and make the ride back, without gloves - than you're tougher than me.
i don't think it's about being tough, more about being acclimated. I work outside all winter, holding on to a metal nail gun or some other frozen shit, I don't wear gloves at work for anything other than demo. When it's so cold I have to wear gloves it's to cold to work is my Jobsite rule, we'll work down to single digits

I suppose if I had a a boat blind with a heater and a skillet full of eggs and sausage, my hands would stay warm without gloves.

Do you wear gloves when you take a shower so you don't get your hands wet? WELL??? DO YOU???
DECOY SETTING GLOVES?

To put this whole glove discussion into perspective...
Which type of gloves work best for sex?
Work?
Play?
Sleeping gloves?

I don't give a shit about wet hands. It's the ice water that gets me. Makes it hard to do stuff when your hands don't move.

Some of the things you say make about as much sense as wiping before you poop.

I like these. Also have a pair of insulated rubber crabbing gloves when it finally gets cold here for long boat rides and/or picking up decoys.

I got a pair similar to these. The neoprene aren't worth a shit, and rip after two uses. These are only good for picking up decoys, not shooting. They are a little bulky, but seem to hold up well. They have a lining which help keep your hands warm when picking up in cold water.

A lot of people have obviously never experienced cold before. If you've never been so cold you couldn't roll a piece of paper into a ball or work a lighter, you've never been cold. After a while, your fingers just stop working. I once lost a cripple because my fingers couldn't pick up a shell, place it in my gun or push the button to release the bolt.

I wear a pair of wool gloves inside a pair of snowmobiling mittens and drop the mittens when its time to shoot.

I've worked outside where nails didn't bend if you mis-hit them, they would snap off. Where you couldn't breathe out of your nose very well, because it filled up with mini ice balls from your breath freezing solid. And I wore the brown jersey gloves, and my hands were plenty warm. The coldest that I can say I worked outside wearing only jersey gloves was a -44 wind chill. Don't know what the actual temp was, but I know for sure that I've never hunted in anything close to that, and certainly not for as long as 9 hour work day.

Jersey gloves work great when you're working, the activity keeps you warm, but I'm not usually framing houses while duck hunting.

The mittens only come out during late season, when shards of ice break off of your waders when you sit back in the blind after a retrieve.

Don't you guys have pockets? Honestly, most times I don't even have the jersey gloves on, I have my hands in a fleece pocket.

It took me a good 2 years after getting out of the Army to be able to put my hands in my pockets and not have to subconsciously worry about getting yelled at or dropped for push ups.

I take several pairs of gloves. Keeping them dry and straight is a challenge.
Hunting out of a boat-blind or a pit with a dog.
Try and keep dry. (try)
This scenario has played out many times:

"Here comes some ducks""
Off come the gloves with a quickness. Who cares where the gloves land?
DUCKS!!! Bunches and bunches of 'em!!! Where's my duck call? Grab the gun!!!
NOW would be a good time to carefully put the gloves into your blind bag and while you're at it...carefully wipe your ass before you poop. (just to be safe) ;)
A couple ducks get shot hopefully...bam, bam.
The dog gets excited and wants to retrieve and it needs doing.

Eventually I get around to recovering the blind and getting back to them gloves which are now soaked from the dog shaking on them. Orrr, they got knocked into the bottom of the pit that's wet. Or maybe just one.
By the time I run out of gloves...I better have a limit or I'm effed.

I thought you were supposed to take a friend along to keep your hands warm if they get cold? Isn't that what Montana does?

I'm a wuss who's sworn off cracked hands. Use $4 rubber utility gloves for water work and add $5 Army surplus wool liners when it's really cold.

Can't call with gloves, so I also carry a couple Zippo hand warmers when it's cold enough for them. About $20 per but well worth it to me.

I think Rick has shown us all the best way here. The fact is, all gloves suck for duck hunting. Its just something you deal with.
