I don't even think I have any pictures anymore. I don't put it over a layout, I have a piece of dog chain sewn around the edge to hold it down in the breeze, and set it out with some shells around it. Although this year I may very well just say fuck it and have the farmer run off about 300 pounds of corn from the combine into the back pasture, and greenjeans can suck a dick.

That's the way to do it. The swamp behind my house always has corn around the banks and in the water from October to January, not sure how it happens but it alway does!

This is where I had it set up last year, next to the plond in the back corner of the pasture. No geese even flew over to take a look, so I don't know how it worked.

If I want to hunt here in the backyard, I have to get as far away from the horses as possible, per the wife. Until the corn is cut, that means one little back corner of pasture. But I'
ll take it, since I can get out and hunt with about 2 minutes prep, total, from door to sitting behind a loaded gun.

I don't blame you there. How's the plond work? I could see it working but damn that looks awful gimmicky.

They do work. I used one out in AZ for doves, and I had doves coming in by the bucketful, and jackrabbits as well. One piece of sheet plastic and about 10 minutes, and I had the only water hole within 10 miles.

Here's what you need in the rice boot:

They're sitting at a friends house, haven't moved in at least 3 years. They are meant for shallow water layout hunts.

Maybe 50 pounds.
The company info was molded into the head rest area, I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow.

Plywood and Fiberglas and you can build the same thing for much cheaper. Follow the same process that Assa did his hybrid.

Now that you mention that, I did see a couple guys who made coffin boxes that way for hunting flooded corn. Would be just right for rice, I think. I think it was on the Fuge in their hybrid thread, but if you go look, good luck, since it's about 800 pages.

Last year I came up with a cheaper solution. Its a little cheesy but it works. Get a low, flat folding beach chair. Paint it camo where it would be visible or shine and put the layout on top. Its perfect for 8-12" of water. The only problem is it may sink a bit in soft mud. I used it to hunt the salt ponds here last year and it was deadly.

This is genius. There are a lot of places where I could use this setup, maybe add some plywood "snowshoes" to the legs to keep it from sinking. The only other option I could think of was pallets on stilts, but thats not very portable. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for one.
