Keeled Decoy converted to Field Decoy

Postby McBeard » Wed Aug 14, 2013 6:27 pm

I was looking through Mack's Prairie Wings waterfowl magazine and came across some Amphibious Decoy Stakes that allow you to convert your keeled decoys into field decoy. Has anyone seen these? Use these? Pros? Cons?

I've seen em, but never used them. Seem like a decent idea though.

I've taken a small shovel with me and cut a trench for the duck to sit in. They didn't swivel around like a full body goose but it worked okay.

Sent from my phone.

Use geese decoys, and just mix some mallards in here and there, full bodies are nice but not ness, nor are special steaks, just prop up level

I was thinking the same thing. Just trying to get info before I went further with the idea.

Decent idea also. Would save on money, that's for sure.

What he said. If you want to kill ducks in a field, use goose decoys and mallards won't notice or care whether there are ducks there, too. And if you feel like you just have to run some ducks, prop a few floaters up, and save your duck gear money for more important things. Like a whirligig with a remote to stop it when geese show, geese hate 'em, but spinning wings decoys are death on dry field ducks.

No matter your spread, ducks in a field will circle and circle, good concealment, no movement and rigid discipline on who's is calling the shot when is way more important than your decoys

True, but a couple mojos in a field and you don't need other decoys.

I couldn't agree more and I'm all for a ban on them. But they attract the shit out of birds in a field.

So what I'm hearing is...

1) Skip any extra posts or stands and just level some keeled decoy in a field.
2) Use geese decoy because duck will still come in.
3) Mojo's suck for geese but ****ing rock for duck.

And you can swear here. If you turn of your filter in your settings you can see the big boy words instead of stars
