Just when you think...

That you don't need anymore decoys, just take a look at some. Thinking about adding 6 Widgeons and 6 shovelers. Maybe even a dozen divers. The duck fever is starting to creep up on me.

What's a shoveler?

Do we have the shoveler bros. Over here?

All one of them? I guess that's all you need when you only shoot a couple ducks a year

I've got gaddy dekes.

Currently I have 2 dozen FB Oversize mallards, 2 dozen mallard floaters, a dozen sprigs, half a dozen GW teal, and half a dozen gads.

Always room to improve; oh and Tom, fuck off.

You need more teal. Always more teal.

I believe it. Half the ducks I shot this year were teal. I was surprised they hung around till late October, early November.

Teal are usually plentiful for is as well. Also they say the size difference gives a more lifelike appearance and the illusion of movement. Don't know how true that is though.

I don't worry about movement much. I normally won't even hunt blue bird days because there's no wind. If I do hunt blue bird days, I'm jump shoot creeks.

RMFC,
You should worry about decoy motion. It matters.

Also, I have killed a ton of ducks on bluebird days.

Glad to get ya jonesing for some ducks. You like geese?

RMFC hunts the same ducks I do. Just stand out there and shoot.

I love hunting geese but here it seems like everything has to be perfect. Only had a few occasions where that has happened. The last time was not this last Christmas, but the one before. Christmas day and there was a lot of people hunting for whatever reason on that day. Any ways, I doubt we would have gotten any attention if I didn't have my super mag shells out. We had only 30 decoys but the super mags can be seen from a long ways away. Short and sweet, we limited out in 45 minutes. Although I did get some geese this year, I wasn't targeting them.

I'll always be a duck hunter at heart, but a good goose shoot is hard to beat. You don't have to do everything perfect to kill geese, but the times you do get everything right can be epic. If I were a better caller I would likely be about 50/50[TRADE MARK SIGN] ducks to geese, but until then I'll just resort to buying more decoys!

Thanks. That was a very windy day at a farm pond. I shot my first Redhead that day (crushed him!) which is on the top of this picture.

Yepp, have had a few days like that with geese but mainly with ducks in the early season is when I get the most limits. I'm the duck guy with all the decoys and another buddy I hunt with is the goose guy. I think that's my favorite thing is hunting ducks for the first 4 weeks of the season. Lots of bird, and I can wear a T-shirt with a layer of bug spray. And teal!

Sws002 I agree on the duck thing. But its always neat to totally fool a flock of geese and make the sky rain honkers. I was on a good shoot with Jarbo and GKR a couple years back where we fooled em and made em pay. Those are good pictures

I had them work me for two seasons and not finish. This one made a fatal error. Jarbo says they are easy to finish so maybe I am getting better?

Other than scaup, redheads are as easy as it gets to call in.

Me either. Two years ago in NoDak we could not keep those fuckers out of our spread. I'm not exaggerating in the least when I say we could have killed over 100 the last two days. Got kind of aggravating actually, watching prime drake redheads swim around in your spread, damn near made a poacher out of me!
