The light bar

Postby Ricky Spanish » Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:16 am

It's not just any light bar...
Way back when this site was a baby Olly and I got into it over LED lighting.
He's a coastie and they probably use the very finest Cree led lighting.
I was like meh whatever.
Had a pair of auxiliary flood lights like on a tractor.
Was fine...
Then I ran in a boat race where they had omg they lit up the entire woods top to bottom with pure white brilliance.
So I bought this thing cheap.
35 dorrahs....Chyna.
Sweet these are way too much you melt the sunglasses on oncoming boaters.
Olly was right....damnit.

Ben searching for that light bar since last year.
It might end up on stan's boat because I traded him for a duck commander wood duck call.

Put a Drake decal across the top and call it a day. Everyone will say it’s the brightest they’ve seen.

Nope.
They got 20 foot boats with 90 horse engines and 48 inch light bars. Bars ...plural.
You can see the glow way off...
It's like we are scared of the dark.

I made two of my own light bars using those LED bedliner kits and put them on 6 foot long two by fours. I believe each kit was less than $40.

I also have a light bar like you have that is twice as long that I’ve never used. Somebody gave it to me and it has sat in my garage. I always say I’m going to put it on my trailer but it has yet to happen.

It'd seem like they're the shit until you do the maffs.
My little 20 inch bar is 120 watts.
At 12 volts that's a ten Amp load.
So I run a little 9 inch one that's 40 watts.
With the 20 inch one you may as well plan on pull starting the engine to get home.

Plus this:
If you forget to cover the light bar well it WILL flare ducks every time.
Plan on two layers of burlap minimum.
