Last year I had a flock of about 20 on a string for several low passes right over the decoys at daylight. We ended up passing as it was a promising duck day. Probably the best ops my group has had in several years in terms of whacking several out of one flock.

Was that a rare occurrence to have them by you? Something new or routine?

Rare in terms of a large flock doing what they did but it's not like we can shoot them daily in any number. I would put our ops at a handful of time per year and then it's mostly small groups when that does happen.

That's embarrassing. Figured it had to be your old farm but just couldn't see it.

These are for Sunday night, this morning's model runs. GFS is updating right now, still lot of uncertainty but telling that both models (the best two we have) show a storm between BR and Houston Sunday evening into Monday morning.

I give up. Virus, riots, no ducks, hurricanes, ignorant America hating people, and the list goes on and on. I've had enough.

I think all of us have Dave........ and not so sure we don't need to start creating an offsetting group against this anti-fa/anti-American bullshit. I had some gift certificates for Academy from Christmas, that i was going to use to stock up on fishing tackle. Said screw that, and spent it all on more ammunition for my pistols and rifles, which is now in short supply.

I was watching a program called wild Russia during the week and these were talked about near the end. Might need to move to south Korea or Japan. From what I've read their numbers were down significantly in the 80's but they have made a tremendous comeback. They are classified as "least concern" today on the ICUN red list.

Baikal Teal
Distribution and habitat
It breeds within the forest zone of eastern Siberia from the Yenisey basin eastwards to Kamchatka, northern Koryak, eastern Magadan Oblast, northern Khabarovsk Krai, southeastern and northern Sakha east central Irkutsk Oblast, and northern Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is a migratory species, wintering in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, northern and eastern China, from Beijing down the coast to the Vietnam border, and west to Yunnan then north to Chongqing and Henan.[1][9]
It breeds in pools on the tundra edge and within swampy forests. In winter it is found on lowland fresh waters.

Watch to the end

Are you all too young to remember the days of green-wing murmuration like that? When there were such big balls that we'd argue over whether they were green-wings or black birds?

(Then, when they'd decide to come our way to settle the debate, and everybody would shoot into the "can't miss" swarm - sometimes only to see one one or two fall out.)

I well remember the swarms of Green-Wings back in the 70's, even here in Alabama. It wasn't a matter of whether or not you would kill your limit (4 each back then), only a matter of how long it took, and a lot of times, less than 5 minutes. We could not shoot until Sunrise back then, and you want to talk about driving you crazy before LST? A lot of hunters would just park at the mouth of one of the small bays, and as soon as the first blind limited and started picking up, they would replace them. I miss shooting low brass 8's..............especially at $1.79 a box!!!!

Not sure of those things, but I'm pretty confident in saying there are no flooded cornfields between Siberia and South Korea or Japan. :D

Last time I had the greenwings or black birds argument was 2014-2015 season (I think). Saw a group of ~100 a couple years back but those were immediately obvious as the first time we caught sight of them was after a sneak attack from behind.

4 guns killed 7 of those for the record, but I’ve been a part of MUCH worse shooting than that more often than I care to admit.

Doubt they're looking to land when murmuring, just buzzin' hither and yon because they can.

Hadn’t been fortunate enough to see that many teal in any case. Have seen several thousand mallards and Pintail in flooded unharvested beans back in the 70’s but nothing close since.

I think it was last year. I was looking at the cooling lake while driving. That's an odd looking cloud over the lake. Why is the cloud changing shape like that? Then it clicks. It's a giant swarm of ducks. There was supposed to be around 70,000 mallard on the lake and they all must have decided to get up at the same time

Not unusual to see swarms in the thousands. Nearly always after the season is closed. We were rumored to get the duck season moved back a couple weeks but that apparently died :(
