This is probably not a new phenomenon but it’s something I’ve noticed more so the last few years than I’d noticed in previous years. Ducks mixing with geese. Guess they equate large goose numbers with safety?

The GFS model wishes all southern Miss. Flyway hunters a very Merry Christmas with this arctic plunge on tap next week

That map shows 14 in my area. If that's true, I'll have some new ducks to hunt.

No complaints from me. Agfc aerial survey showed the lowest amount of mallards counted in a December survey dating back to 2009, when the survey began. Need all the help we can get.

Preseason 2020-2021

Postby Duck Engr » Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:15 am

My guy Joe Bastardi at weatherbell mentioned a snowmageddon 2014 scenario in his Saturday summary last weekend. Guess this is what he was referring to.

We need all the help we can get. I didn’t get to go (thankfully as it turns out) but two different groups of friends hit 4 wmas over 5 days in Arkansas last week into the weekend. Killed 5 ducks combined, and they are much better hunters than I am.

Yeah at this point in the season I don’t count on pushes, just stirring what’s already around. And from what they saw (or didn’t) in fields while driving, there wasn’t much around either.

Now in post-season mode, and reeling from the great snow and ice storm of 2021, been out of power since Monday morning at 9:00am. Never seen so much ice on trees and our neighborhood has suffered a lot of damage. Thankfully we have gas stove, fireplace, and hot water heater but still leaves us with a cold dark house every night and it's gotten old.

Hope to have power back today or tomorrow

We were out for less than a day, which was plenty in an all electric house w/o a big generator. Been hating it for the Texans, but didn't realize BR was still out. Hope your power's coming soon.

Surprisingly, we haven't lost power or water yet up here but we got more snow than ice. The ice in trees should melt this afternoon and that should keep us powered through one more very cold night.

5 acre pond is frozen aside from small area du is kept open. Image

Was a lot more common in the land of the little people than down here. Voodoo, on the other hand...

First I'd seen some of the ducks at Bass Pro (Denham Springs) wandering amongst the merchandise. Saturday morning's weather was a good time to be wandering around in there, honing my calling approach for these

Was driving through some prime Arkansas hunting grounds west/NW of Memphis last week, saw fair many dressed up bluewings in some really nice habitat.

Had a nice flock of black bellies come over the pond at dusk Sunday evening while walking Amos.

Had a nice bunch of teal on pond last week.

Sent me pics of how many he held during the winter by feeding them in his backyard area. Think he's actually feeding doves for banding but the BBWD moved in thick. He's not too far away from me here in BR.
