That'd be a do it all boat for you John. You could hunt divers or jack it up and hit the marsh for puddle ducks. I'd go with a 20x70 with a hunt deck and CC with that engine.

My next rig will be the 1750 with 19" side and the hunt deck with a 35gtr

Pretty sure you will like the GTR better than the MudBuddy.

i think I'd want an 18 or 20, no hunt deck but pods and a tiller. Wouldn't be the right boat for the big water up here but would be ideal for a LOT of the inland lakes as well as trips we make down to the Atchafalaya or da wax. Not sure if I would want the layout blind kinda floor or just all open, provably all open and a few racks for layout boats.

Hey Kent, if in the future I wanted to throw a 35GTR on my 17x50 hunt deck would I need to re work the angle of the transom? It has a 35 MB now.

We will certainly build it any way you want....couple of thoughts though. With most aluminum boats (being built with crimps and light bracing and light aluminum as possible to save money to the manufacturer), when you hang a heavy motor off the back the boat squats in the rear and pods become an option to explore. BUT! With a Gator Trax, especially with the huntdeck, the boat sits FLAT as a pancake. there is little to NO sag in the back end. Keep in mind these boats get paired with mud motors 90% of the time. Mud motors are heavy...about 315lbs. Many times, we hang TWO on the back of a boat that size, which will weigh more than your outboard...and there is no sag in the back. If you can stay away from pods sometimes that's best. Pods are basically for boats that are either not long enough and you want more planning surface, or if you don't have enough boat out front to offset the weight of the motor in the back. Either situation, the pods can help. But since you wont have either situation with a Gator Trax, you may want to consider the PROBLEMS pods cause. One of the biggest issues with pods is that they act as an oversized trim tab. They can help keep the back end UP...but there is no magic button so to speak to make them STOP keeping the back end up once you plane off, so now your nose is DOWN...which aint where you want it when you are trying to get the front end UP to decrease drag so you can RUN! Which you will be able to do with that motor....like a scalded ape.

The huntdeck will handle everything you want in a shallow water boat, you wont need the pods. But we will certainly build it how YOU say.

Here is that same boat with a 150, and two men on it. The entire height of the huntdeck is 10" tall. You can see even with all that weight on it, the draft is very shallow.
