Jehler is right, get the foam off the floor.

If your putting it anywhere, put some on the front deck, and each side on the back.

Also I'm with Assa, make that bad boy as open/simple as possible. No seats, nothing.

I redid one and build a bench across the back that functioned as seating/dry storage, battery box and gas box. Then a front deck for more storage and thats it. The more permanent structure the more hassle.

exactly, you want the flotation "three pointed" and as high to the gunnels as feasible. Foam in the floor meets regs but encourages your boat to float upside down when flooded, having it positioned right helps prevent capsizing.

And now Johnny, the time has come for me to paint my boat. I am thinking I will just tape off the motor real good and shoot everything around it....

40 or 50 tiller, they are all good but I'm partial to evinrudes and Johnson's for two strokes

thats a good question for somebody in San Diego. I have no idea what kind of water your running there? Jets are best for rocky shallows

Jets will take a little performance away, and will have to be rebuilt quite often if its sandy if has small rocks or pebbles.

I just talked to a buddy of mine he said you can use either one. You have be carefull with them both. He also stated that the Jet uses more gas. So I guess I will utilize whatever I can find the best deal. I do know I need a long shaft motor though.

A proper outboard is always your first choice unless conditions dictate something else, what's your budget?

I haven't really decided on my budget for a motor yet. How hard is it to adjust a motor from short shaft to long shaft? I have a 1989 Johnson 30 hp short shaft.

its just a mid section piece plus a new driveshaft, water tube and shift shaft. Call around and check with dealers, scrapers that may have the same model as yours in long shaft with a blown power head they are willing to part out

Will a 30hp push that boat around enough or will I need a 40 hp minimum? I may have found a 1980 50 hp long shaft with controls for $500.

I understand about not going cheap on a motor but I currently do not have the money to buy an expensive motor this season so I will make do with what I can afford. I am also thinking of putting a console on the boat since I am also utilizing the boat as a fishing boat for me and my family during the off season. I have a boat with a tiller and a 3 year old boy. Sometimes it is hard to have him and manage a tiller even if I am going real slow. So this motor is a good runner and has everything with it plus I also like the older 2 strokes. To me they are easier to work on but I have also never had a 4 stroke boat motor. This season is my test season.

You have seen it LOADED and how it runs. Gotta love those old Johnson motors.

Why dont we shoot that new phone of yours and get you back into a Samsung?

I would stick to a tiller. So much more room, unless you have a really small console. Can't remember where I saw the console I'm talking about it..it might have been Tman. But thats the only console I would run on a multi use boat.

I'd still prefer the tiller.

You can tighten then tension on a tiller so it is as hands free as a console FYI
