Just got back from my first run with the new boat. Everything was awesome, the engine never missed a beat and I was seeing speeds of 27 in shallows and 25 cruising in deeper water. That's double my long tail speeds. The prop even needs to be replaced!

I was able to cover the same distance I did on my first trip to the Delta in about 1/4 of the time and then some.

Only got into a little mud, didn't have the balls to go head first into the unknown on my first ride, in the future I want to get a hand winch and a good supply of synthetic winch cable on hand. The little bit of mud I did get into was easily handled.

One other thing I love about this boat is the rounded chines, when making sharp turns in a bend it feels like the boat has AWD never loses traction. I've been in other boats where you will skip straight instead of making the turn.

I have a lot of little things I want to change or add to the boat and I'll post updates as I go along.

This is why I'm so excited about having the larger faster boat. That is 26.3 miles round trip...

There aren't any boat launches between the start and finish point? Fuck a long ass boat ride in a john boat.

There are only 3 public boat launches on the west side of the bay. I'm sure there are some private pay to launch places but pretty much to get anywhere to the interior of the delta is at least 5 miles. Most of the boats I see tooling around there are bass boats so it's really no problem when you can do 60mph.

Yeah that would suck in a John boat. I think that's why he bought the gator trax. Hell id be launching at the furthest point away just to enjoy that ride if I had one.

I took my first ride in one a few days ago with my neighbor. Technically yeah it's a John boat. But Jesus it's so much better.

Olly, what's the flat thing in the front, that looks like a foot pedal for a trolling motor?

It's not straight- is that normally how a motor mount works? (I've never had a "real" boat, or a trolling motor. Always thought they just clamped on the bow somehow)

They mount on the plate and you Un fold them into the working configuration. You can get the foot control ones or hand control.

They are badass. You can run the trolling motor while fishing, and never have to sit your beer down.

Wow, a lot of fuel by out standards. But after seeing your map, I understand your thinking and your purchase better.

I dont think there are many 26 mile trips in KS for ducks!

I got rid of the 6 gallon tank in my boat for a couple of reasons. This tank wouldn't pick up all of the fuel due to its shape. It was an Attwood. So I would run out, but still have over a gallon of fuel. I only run somewhere from a couple hundred yards to ten miles depending on the day. It is nice not having to stop and fill up the tank everyday and if I do make a long run I have plenty of fuel.

Isn't it designed that way so you have reserve fuel? Tilt it up and get the rest, never tried it myself though
