Probably has some sort of planetary gear, I'd imagine.

I though it was just an electric motor with an output shaft directly to the prop.

Yea check the gear oil. Might be low.

My buddy had a trolling motor that started doing the same thing. He took it apart and said there was stuff stuck around the prop shaft. Greased it up and put it back together, worked pretty good after. Just a thought.

Cable foot control.
It's wide open all the time. On and off a lot. And usually a heavy load.

I've got a 70 lbs. thrust 24v Motorguide that will only run wide open. It's an electrical problem with mine. A very expensive electrical problem. Around $400 to fix it.

Take it apart. They are really pretty simple.

If you can find a way to bypass the controls and hook it straight to the battery, that might tell you if it's a control problem or a motor problem.
