So the motor is probably shot then?

I had a buddy who lost a few speeds on his trolling motor because he was constantly going through vegetation and hitting bottom. Maybe you striped a gear.

Do electric trolling motors have gears?

Probably has some sort of planetary gear, I'd imagine.

I though it was just an electric motor with an output shaft directly to the prop.

Yes. No gears.

Yea check the gear oil. Might be low.

No. What's there to clean?

My buddy had a trolling motor that started doing the same thing. He took it apart and said there was stuff stuck around the prop shaft. Greased it up and put it back together, worked pretty good after. Just a thought.

I also know next to nothing about trolling motors. FYI. So just going with educated guess and what I have heard.

3 to 4 hours run time doesn't seem to long to me unless your running it wide open with a heavy load.

Cable foot control.
It's wide open all the time. On and off a lot. And usually a heavy load.

Never timed one, but that's probably about right on the run time.

Did it just start running slow?

I've got a 70 lbs. thrust 24v Motorguide that will only run wide open. It's an electrical problem with mine. A very expensive electrical problem. Around $400 to fix it.

It's ran slow ever since I bought it. Used of course. Probably got screwed.

Pull off the prop and make sure you don't have fishing line and other crap wound around the shaft. This will make them slow down and cause a higher load that will drain a battery faster

Take it apart. They are really pretty simple.

If you can find a way to bypass the controls and hook it straight to the battery, that might tell you if it's a control problem or a motor problem.

I do that after every time I use it. Gets a lot of shit wrapped around it when your only running 6-12" of water.

I helped my dad take one apart a few years ago. Probably have some time to mess with it this weekend.

Boot said they did. Don't you trust him?

I honestly have no idea!

spray with wd 40 and it will melt the fishing line and lube the shaft without disassembly
