you mind if I ask what that hull cost ya gang? I have a 225 outboard on a checkmate speed boat that I hate. A hull like that would be a real good fit for me. Maybe a bit longer, is that a 22'?

I paid 3200 for the hull...the trailer was junk and the motor was beat.
by the time it was said and done, we put around 15,000 in to it.
It's 20 and a 115 is plenty motor when proped.
A 225 will push a 24 with more then enough power. I've got a buddy thats running a 225 honda on a 24. We've been 30 miles out many times on it and it'll take some nasty water.
If your looking one, keep an eye on Eastern NC criagslist, plenty of crab boats fixin to go up for sale.

It's been difficult locating a hull. The motor is a 225 with a 20" shaft. Other than bass boats it hard to find a hull rated for 225 that isn't a 25 inch transom. Recently I've started looking at older I/o's with crao engines, thinking about modifying the transom with a Gil or something....

Privateers, older mako and aqua sport boats will all handle that motor. Ive owned all 3 at some point. Dry, sound hulls. Also look into sea ox or sea hawk. Comparable boats IMO and at 20-22 ft will take a 225.

You might not want to listen to me though. We have a 24ft carolina skiff with a 225 yamaha. We broke it out last night with 38 bushels of oysters and 12 cages in it and it still ran 45 mph. Might be a little much motor for the boat but it get a load where it needs to go.

Bay, I try to overpower everything I own, it's nice to have a boat that you can cruise in at half throttle. I was an aqua sport dealer for a while, real familiar with them and like them up till Genmar got greedy. Just not many around here. Lots of i/o's but few outboards. I'll keep
My eyes on the east coast Craig's list. It's going to have to be cheap, but I don't care much about aesthetics, all my boats save one are covered in green paint lol!

There's nothing worse than getting caught in a blow and not having the power to get through it safely. I my last boat before I bought my new Mako was a 1984 22-2 aqua sport. I wish I had repowered it and kept it now. You could run that thing wide open in a 4 ft chop and not get beat to death and stayed dry. I like the mako too but they arent the boats they used to be. My nieghbor has an old mako sitting out back. I can see if they want to let it go, but I think it needs a new ceiling in it. Its a 19 ft I think. Otherwise I'll keep my eyes open for you.

thanks bay, don't go out of your way but I appreciate it, gonna have I be the right deal an I have patience to wait. I live on a tight budget right now till building picks back up a little. I'm going to put my checkmate ip for sale and see if I can get a sucker to buy that.

Cool looking rig rhino! Do you have any more pictures/details you would like to share? I am going to have to have a shallow water craft in the future, our big lake is getting used more for water and silting in more. Lake is shallow every year now. where it used to be every few years.

It's a fiberglass duckboat built down here in FL. 13'6" long and 68" wide. I coated the bottom with Gator Glide and powered it with a Copperhead 18 HP surface drive. It is the perfect one man boat. Runs 25+ mph with deeks and stuff. Goes anywhere there is 5" of water. And most important it hides in almost no cover.

We put a new motor on it( the old one had a cracked head and wasn't useable), put a jackplate on the motor, put a console on it and redid all the wiring. Still have to take off some of the 4 by 4s that are on there and build a blind for it. But other than that its ready to hunt. Got the first duck for the boat on the first day with it in the water.

Next I sanded the bottom and applied Gator Glide.

Found a trailer for it.

Ordered a Copperhead 18hp for it.

Had to cut down and reglass the transom for the proper 15" height.

Got it rigged and went for a test run.

Finished the camo last weekend.

Mounted the new LED bow light.

About a 100 other things that I have not mentioned but I'm still improving it.
