what do you do with the spare tire?

Am thinking something along the lines of putting it on the trailer tongue but... how to theft proof it. Then someone might get pissed and flatten it as a prank. Public hunters with jealous envy will pull some stupid shit like that. Probly best to lock spare tire in cab while out hunting.

Mine is bolted to the tongue and has a place for a lock. I think you're over thinking it AB.

Put Illinois license plates on your trailer and things change thanks to a lot of chicago foolishness.

Watch out AB they're out to get you.

Put it on the trailer and lock it.

Mine goes in the back of the truck with a spare hub and bearings, grease jack and tools when I'm going anywhere more than 20 miles from home

Mine rides on the tongue on a locking bracket I made.

On each of the two bolts weld a small strip of steel with holes on each one that will line up when both are spun in the center of the tire. Put a padlock through the holes and your spare is locked. A little confusing but its a real simple way to do it.

because in all my years I have only had one blown tire, and lost bearings a half dozen times or better

If you want it I'll make it for you. Just give me the C to C measurements on the bolts and the bolt size.

I've seen some mounts made using a spindle and a complete hub and bearings that were pretty slick.

That is brilliant! This is why I started the thread.
Carrying bearings and a spare spindle too. Spare axle? lol
Seriously, thanks. That is the best idea ever! To demonstrate:
Have you ever tried to buy trailer parts in Southern Illinois on a Sunday?
My wheel fell off just after launching boat at Rend Lake. Spindle was trashed.
I got other duckhunters to load my boat AND TRAILER into bed of my pickup and drove home. Worst day duckhunting ever.
It was a Sunday.

Around here you can buy trailer parts at gas stations and roadside stands.

Last duck season I blew a trailer tire out. Shredded.
Like jehler, I go thru bearings. Arkansas dirt is very fine sand with lots of iron in it. Hard on anything that rolls or slides.
I think I have had only one trailer tire go flat. Have replaced bearings, spindles, and hubs. They never break when a store is open. Usually 60-70 miles from the store. Best to carry spare parts. It has saved very expensive duckhunts several times.
Keep spare prop, nut, pump, and anything you break on the boat as well.

There is a tractor supply with 15 mins of rend lake that carries hubs, spindles, bearing and all sorts of other trailer parts. They are open on Sunday.

That store wasnt built yet when my hub fell off. I been hunting ducks a long LONG time.
Lets pretend I lost a hub today at Big Lake. Jonesboro is only 40 miles but takes almost 90 minutes to get there. Better off having a spare. (I do)

I'm not saying its not a good idea to have a spare. It's definitely a good idea for a spare, because there is no telling where you will be when something happens. I was just letting you know for future reference if it happens to you again around here.

Thanks. Is that place open at 3am? Wink wink.

Seriously though AB it's just two pieces of galvanized flat bar with slots in one end and threaded holes in the other to match the bolts.
