How wide should the shooting hole be?

Postby aunt betty » Wed Dec 11, 2013 8:18 am

Have seen the question asked a few times.
Measured my blind. Its 25" wide at the top.
This is why. A shotgun cradles nicely like this.
That chair is 23" wide. You can see how if it were and inch or two bigger would be better.

A 2' x 2' opening is ideal size.

I like my holes to be a tight fit.

I'm sure your blind mates appreciate you keeping it tight...

Yup. They can move around a lot that way and still be hidden.

Been my experience that 99.99% of the guys who think it's a good idea to lay their guns across the top of a blind also think it's a good idea to telegraph their intent by reaching up for it when birds are trying to close in. And the .01% is doomed to be slow getting underway. Grrr...

Carry on.

true. But there are times when you hide behind a blind. Have shot ducks while sitting outside the blind on the bow. I know it's horrible" form" to put the gun outside the blind and don't intend to. However there are times you need to set it somewhere while pissing for instance. :)
