Converting counsel to tiller

Postby NuffDaddy » Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:34 pm

Is it possible? Kinda sick of having the CC in my boat. Motor is a late 80s Evenrude 40 if that matters.

Just have to buy the tiller, probably $500.00.

Depending on where you live, you can probably trade the center console, the helm and the throttle quadrant for a tiller handle and perhaps some cash too.

Post some pictures of your boat.

So the tiller will just mount on the motor and the throttle will hook to that. I'm pretty sure I've seen them for around $300 when I looked a while back. Just didn't know if there was special parts of if everything came with a tiller to mount it and hook it up.

You might just be able to make the entire tiller handle and throttle assembly out of 5200.
But watch out you might get some retard like RonE trying to be the cool guy and try to start shit with you for it.

Good luck with it, last time I looked this summer, the assemblies were going for over $500, and its a PITA to configure it to tiller. From what ive read its not as easy to convert it. Ive got a very similiar motor, 86 or 87 evinrude 40hp(used to be VRO, bypassed now)

In all seriousness maybe it would be easier to convert to a stick steer. At least you get rid of the bulky console.

the tiller handle mounts to the lever that your steering cable mounts to, it's easy peasy

That's the part I don't know about. I paid $600 for the motor, so I don't want to spend a shit ton on this. I'll probably just suck it up and deal with the counsel.

You shoulda seen how I had it spelled before autocorrect took over. Took me 2 tries before autocorrect could recognize it as a word.
