If Jim were here he'd say "build a small scale model out of manila folder first, it acts very similar to the luan plywood".

Yes, I would.

But unfortunately, FF's correction is 100% accurate.

I'm getting ready to start a 12 footer in a month and a half, or so, when it starts to warm up a little.

My 15 horse mercury outboard is for sale. $400 but needs upper motor mounts.
FYI you can fix them with 5200 but it doesn't hold up to smashing into a submersed log with the foot of the motor at 25 mph.

Is it even remotely fixable, or is a guy looking at another $1000 to get a $400 motor working?

Looking at 160 bucks to get a $400 motor working. Which is worth more than $400 when fixed.
