Part of the skill of waterfowl hunting is keeping it cheap. ..you will need money for the important stuff like gas and beer. @
Using older boats and motors makes sense.
1. You gain experience in maintaining a motor etc.
2. If you tear it up, you are out hundreds, not thousands.

I'm not ashamed at all of my skinny old boat and motor. Proud that it actually works still after 35 years.
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.

Exactly. Disposable duck boat. I don't even hunt anywhere that I need a mud motor or a welded slick bottom boat. I just want my old heap to haul ass.

Every morning when he gets out of bed handling a big stick is about the first thing he does...........

It's a 9x10 from Michigan wheel. So should I go up in pitch for more speed?
Opinions?

Now that were in the ballpark do you suggest a different pitch? This is a 10" from what I gather.

you dont want more pitch if it didnt sound like you were getting good rpm's, think of your prop pitch like a gear ratio
I wouldnt spend a penny on a prop till you have that motor tuned and know what kind of rpm's your turning. see if any of your mechanic buddies have a micro tach or an inductive one you can clip to a spark plug boot

Last time I took it out alone, the second day it seemed to perform better. It really has some chunks of crud coming out of the weep hole on the foot though. Maybe a few more cans of seafoam.
Also read about "decarbing" idk what that's all about though.

thats the best plan of action, theres a lot more to it than just pitch and rpm in props when you get into higher hp and specific uses, but not so much with your motor and use

play with your carb adjustments also, its a lot easier to adjust a carb in a test tank with a static prop but you can do it on a boat easy enough, just take someone with you so you dont hit anything while you're messing with the needle and not paying attention. lean that baby out till it starts to "cough" and then give it a 1/4 turn back rich and see how it runs out

Why not just find out what the OEM prop is, and put that on?
