Boat trailer for sneak boat

Postby Tomkat » Thu Aug 23, 2012 7:56 am

The last thing I needed was another project. But for $150 I just couldn't pass this one up. A fella south of town had an extra jet ski trailer on Craigs list, and Shazam! just like that, I have a new unfinished project.

Image

It needs some spot welding on a fender, and I will have to modify or replace the boards/brackets to get it to fit the pintail correctly. The box is going away, too.

Yes Brandy, you are going to get to ride in the boat, very soon.

Has anyone else ever used something like this for a sneak boat?

I looked for a jet ski trailer for my hybrid for quite a while, and never found one. So I bought a new 5x8 utility trailer for $300, and put some 2x8s on it. Best investment ever. I find myself using that little trailer all the time.

Have you shot out of that thing yet? First season is a humbling experience. At least it was for me.

No, I have not. But we do a lot of field hunting, and I have done pretty good out of a layout blind. Is there anything very different between the two?

I have also shot a few clays from my layout blind-

Yes, those little boats move/rock a lot when you jump up. A LOT.

If you are a skrawny kid like me, when you shoot the boat goes backwards too.

It should be an interesting experience. I am more concerned with Brandy getting in/out of the boat than the shooting part. Do most people take a dog or go it alone?

I don't have a dog, but when I do, I'll take him along.

Picture please.

I just received my hybrid plans from Missed, and haven't figured out the trailer part yet. Hope to get the stupid shed up to have room in the garage to build the hybrid over the summer.

The only thing left from my seaArk was the trailer. I have an untitled sneak boat on it. For sale.
But since I want money for the trailer, boat, and motor...the bargain factor is zero.

It's electric, has about 4 horsepower and is meant for a bass boat.
You want a 6 horsepower mud motor for this boat...I rigged a bow-mounted trolling motor. Can you see it?
The motor is on there but the boat is upside down. Zoom in on the 'front' that's really the back.
It's a Minn Kota and I payed a bit over $400 for it. (just the motor).
The boat was $400 as well and the trailer was $100 but needed new wiring and a tongue.

Guess how much I want for the whole rig?
Hint: A new Carsten Pintail costs almost $1000 with no motor or trailer.

Aw, what the heck...I'll trade for that benelli you love so much. They are both "used".

I have a pintail and trailer. I have a nice MinnKota trolling motor. I am thinking the best thing I could do is make a longtail out of the extra weedeater I have in my barn...

And I will keep that Benelli till death. In fact, I am thining about getting another one as a spare...

TK, I have seen pintails with longtail motors. To tell you why to not do it in two words...
