Pull off the head, cut off however much you want, split the waste piece and remove from the wires, tuck extra wire into shaft and reattach head.

I had no clue it would be more than what I had on there now. Hmmmm.....
my motor has a "collar" with a set screw. You can run shallow but then the shaft sticks way up. Don't cut the shaft.

Who was it that could get the hookup on rolling motors? Can't find his post now.

Assa I used a 45lb trolled on mine and it pushed it fine. I rarely went more than 2 miles and now and then moved around and never had an issue. The battery is key, a good deep cycle and trickle charger and you'll do fine.

Thanks, Rick. Looks like this is the direction I'm going for my current hybrid. When I build the bigger one this summer, I'll sell the 3.5 I have now, and roll the money into a trolling motor, and whatever I have left use for materials for the next boat.

How well did the 3.5 push the hybrid you have now Assa?

It goes good, maybe 10-15 or so. If I'm running with the tide. On those times when I have the wind and tide both against me, I'm lucky to do 3. But with a trolling motor, I can stay in closer, and pick my crossings, instead of having to go way out and around like I do with the outboard, and get hammered by the wind.

Gotcha. I just bought a 3hp that I'm planning on putting on the one I was supposed to build in February. Hopefully get it done this summer sometime.

I switched props, and picked up quite a bit. The nice thing is the plastic props are only about $20.

The one I got has a metal prop on it. Not real concerned about speed, but I won't complain if it goes fast.
