You're selling me on this. Any less cavitation? If you ever get the opportunity, load that thing down as much as you can and let me know what it does.

I think your definitions of "hunt load" and "loaded down" might he a little different than most peoples.

That's why I said "load it down as much as you can". Because I think most people's definition of overloaded is my definition of a normal load.

You need to clean up the surface of the boat in front of the jet. Any rivets or waves in the bottom will cause ventilation in the pump. Also alignment of the intake in the boat is very important. Cavitation is the eating away of material.
Got to love the mud.

Finally got around to throwing a deck over the motor. Plan to build an aluminum one over the off season but this will do for now.

Yeah had to get over the plug wires and exhaust and this is as short as I could build it. Gap is there for airflow, and ran out of ply...

Flight, glad to see your plan coming together, looks good
You could cut a hole on one side of the seat or the other, closer to the side of the boat, and have you a "built in crapper", with a removable 3 or 5 gal bucket mounted below. Tell your wife it's for her, and you want her to feel comfortable when going out in the boat with you

Lol! That's exactly the response I got when I shared it on Facebook. Figured I could route it to the jet and eliminate the bucket and mess

Ding Ding, we have a winner!!!!!!

Necessity is the mother of invention for sure, and when the pressure is on, ya gotta get some relief. A few years ago, while hunting from a pirogue in the LA marsh, the urge came over me........ugh, no where to get out of the boat, too soft, and my hunting partners were snickering as I was getting nervous, and about to blow a gasket. No hanging it over the side without tipping, and I started looking through my hunting bucket. Found several ziplocs loaded with paper towels for just such an occasion, but where to go? My buddies were snickering because it happened to one of them a few weeks prior, and he had to a make a nest in the bottom of the boat with cane and grass to catch, and throw out of the boat after he was done. While rummaging through my hunting bucket, I found a folded up trash bag.........bingo! Unloaded the contents of the bucket, lined it with the trash bag, and viola, a comfortable way to get relief. Ever since that day, every time we go down to Venice to hunt, I make up a half-dozen "shit kits", consisting of a folded trash bag and several paper towels, crammed into a small zip lock, and pass them out to my partners before the hunt. Problem solved

Working on a blind now but of course things didn't lay out as I initially had planned. Intended to build a pretty standard northern flight style blind with a bar on either side that flips in to conceal better. Problem is the deck makes it too high to where if I sat up there with the dog everyone else would not be able to see over the blind.

So now I have an A frame over the deck that I will cover and leave just for the dog. Then the rest of the boat is covered by your standard blind frame. Also considering leaving the dog hide frame and making the rest with layout spots. Thoughts?

Bend the frame up and then towards the deck to make it lay down flat on the rest of the boat.

If that makes any sense?

I like it. Depending on surrounding cover, the dog up higher will help him mark. Also could be dangerous, especially on his hearing with everybody shooting these ported chokes.

I say leave the deck open. Paint it camo colors and use a dog field blind.
Then if you have an exta guy you could have one hunt off the deck in a layout blind too. Would lower the profile and make it stick out less.

Dog blind would just be something else to carry and layout doesn't quite fit. Already tried.

Good point, I will always be the one next to him so they'd have to shoot past me first.

I meant there if it was a contentious rail.

I think you're going the same route as I would have given the circumstances.
I think, (maybe) I would either go higher on the bottom section, or lower on the dog section. (Or both) To reach somewhat of the same elevation.

Keep in mind, the bottom (where you guys sit), WILL sag, so start taller if at all possible.
And, the pooch doesn't need all that much head room because he'll more than likely have his head poked out of the door that I assume you'll have in the front since that's where you staged the new step. (Which I really like by the way!)

Just some input...

How bout this for the dog hide? After Olly suggested bending the frame this clicked and should work better.

Sets the blinds at a much closer height as well.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418345039.645268.jpg

The fold in frames I mentioned earlier can be seen in this pic. They just use gravity to fall back on straps then you can push them forward when you shoot.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418345129.880199.jpg

Picked up the simple tie down straps that should work much better than the plastic buckle hardware I used on my last blind. Provide much more adjustability as well.

That dog step cost me all of $8 to build. Stupid simple.

I also really like that the dog is still hidden but I'm not going to get sprayed every time he shakes. Still while maintaining easy access to get birds from him.
