Hunters: Matthew, William and I with Abby

Temp: Same as day before, 60 degrees, wind 0 - 10 mph from the SE

Morning started out decent, we (they) had 6 ducks by 7:30, then total duck shutdown, we did not shoot again - left at 10:00.
We could hear shooting to our south and west, but we did not see but a handful of ducks after 7:30

Total: 3 - Gadwall, 3 - Greenwing teal

If I remember correctly the "rebelp" guy was a member on DHC a few moons ago that was banned from the site a time or two.
and so was I.

Hunters: Me and Abby

Temp: 45 degrees with West wind 15 - 20 mph gusting to 25 mph

Not much moving, I think it was too much wind.
Two teal came in early, i managed to get 1, half hour later a single Grey came in, and on the third shot got him. It was at least another half hour and about 25 teal passed on the side of the blind, I gave them a couple tweets and they banked headed toward the blind, my gun got caught in the brush, then the butt of the gun got hung up in my coat, after that I missed all three shots :o
About 9:30 three Greys came straight for my Mojo, they came in perfect, bang, bang, bang, 3 dead Greys on the water :D
Then nothing was flying, at 10:30 I said to myself, self I am quitting at 11:00, at 10:56 six Pintail came in low, into the wind, I raised up fired at the closest drake and it fell dead in the blind, life is great.

Totals: 4 - Gadwall, 1 - Greenwing teal, 1 - Pintail

Hunters: Joey and I with his dog Sugar

Temp: 45 degrees, wind NW 10 mph

Better conditions than yesterday, but the blind we pulled is not set up great for any West wind. The ducks we saw Saturday may be the most we have seen all season. We did not have any decoying ducks, but more than enough passing shots to make it a great day.

Totals: 11 - Gadwall, 1 - Greenwing teal.

Sunday, January 3, 2021

Hunters: Joey and I with his dog Sugar(we flipped a coin to see who's dog would hunt and Abby lost)

Temp: 43 degrees, Wind at LST zero until about 9:00

Not much moving this morning, what a difference a day makes. We had few opportunities and the ones we had mostly were blown out by shooting from other blinds. The blind we hunted the day before was the top blind for the day. If the water level in the marsh drops any more we have at least 1 blind we will not be able to hunt

Totals: 3 - Gadwall, 1 - Greenwing teal

Hunters: Buddy and I, no Abby she cut her foot playing with my wife's very large Great Dane

Temp: 44 degrees, wind north 10 - 15 mph

Was pleased with the amount of ducks moving in the area, problem they weren't coming to us. We had 4 teal early then it got slooooow, but picked up about 9:00, we had several groups of Gadwall working only to have them land 50 yards short of the decoys. As in all my hunts we should have killed a few more, but then what would you complain about.

Totals: 5 - Gadwall, 4 - greenwing teal.

Saturday, January 9, 2021

Hunters: Buddy and I

Temp: 37 degrees, dead calm at LST then 5 - 10 mph after 9:00

Not as ducks as we saw yesterday, and most of what we saw had other destinations in mind. There was very little shooting in marsh, except for our #5 blind that 2 members limited (that blind had not been hunted in 2 weeks)
The water in our marsh is getting very low, 1 possibly 2 blinds will not be huntable this coming weekend.
With the low water we are finding a lot more debris in the marsh from Hurricane Laura.

Totals: 2 - Gadwall, 2 - Pintail, 1 - Scaup - and saw less than half the ducks we saw Friday getting up as we left the marsh.

We did not hunt, no one in the camp hunted. Getting too old for those conditions.

Hunters: Larry and I with Abby

Temp: 38 degrees, wind 10 - 15 NW, a little chilly

Not a good day for me, walking out of the camp I stumbled almost fell, but caught myself on a porch support pole, but I screwed up my shoulder, not able to hunt all weekend. I took Larry to the blind and helped him spot ducks and call. Larry is 73 and not as quick to pull up and shoot as he once was. Had a nice flock of teal buzz the blind early and he was not able to get off a shot. Later another group of teal flew past us, I called and they came back pretty, straight to the blind - Larry got 1. Later we had 5 greys pass over the top and Larry was only able to get off 1 shot, but he got a grey duck.
If I was able to shoot I think I would have been able to get a few teal and maybe another grey duck, but maybe not.

Total: 1 - Greenwing teal, 1 - Gadwall, 1 - Pintail

Hunters: Larry ( I was an observer), with Abby

Temp: 36 degrees wind NW 10 mph

Again Larry's inability to get on birds quickly hurt. He had a few opps on teal, but was not able to get a shot off. Later he had a group of 10 greys fly over the blind, and like yesterday he only shot once, but he did get a grey duck. That was it.
One of the other camp members had to drive us to the blind - shoulder not doing well.

Total: 1 - Gadwall

Sunday, January 17, 2021

Hunters: Larry, Reid, (me observing ) and Abby

Temp: 34 degrees dead calm, only a slight breeze at 8:00

Reid is our newest member, nice young man, but he celebrated a little too much the night before, he spent most of the morning sleeping in the bottom of the boat. Same ole, same ole, a few groups of teal came in pretty but Larry was slow getting on them.
We have ducks in the area, but they don't move, we will see a group of 200 teal get up make a little circle and go right back down.
I am done for the year. After all the damage to the camp and marsh we were lucky to have the chance to hunt. The marsh is in bad shape, a lot of the vegetation looks dead, hoping the roots are still alive and will come back.

Totals: 2 - Gadwall, 1 - greenwing teal

I saw in other post the number of bluewing teal being taken, we have not had much for bluewings all year.

MB, good luck with the shoulder, and thanks for your reports. I imagine the pain of not being able to lift a gun and shoot didn't help matters, and good on you for taking your elderly friend

It's not always the years MB, we all age differently, and I hope in 4 years you're still getting on them quickly!!!!!

BG - I did not see any equipment working during our duck season - we hunt about 4 miles north east of Holly Beach. Maybe 'they were waiting for duck season to end before they started.

My totals for the year 2020 - 2021 this was the blinds I hunted only, does not include the entire camp, 15 hunts were two men to the blind, 1 hunt was 3 in the blind, and 1 hunt solo

Greenwing Teal 52

Bluewing Teal 1

Gadwall 62

Pintail 7

Wigeon 3

Spoonbill 10

Total 135

Total hunts 17

Only 1 hunt was a ZERO, averaged almost 4 ducks per man per hunt.
It hurt not having any Bluewing Teal, note above only 1 taken by my blind
I did not include the hunts with Larry in my totals, since I was not able to shoot

I am having rotator cuff surgery on Feb 18 hoping this surgery goes as well as the other shoulder 3 years ago - it's hell to get old

Glad you were able to salvage some of your season MB, and Good Luck with your upcoming surgery! At least you know what to expect this time around, and have enough time for recovery before teal season
