Date: Friday, Nov 26, 2021

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 48 degrees, wind NE 10 - 15 mph

Time to leave the camp and go to the landing, I get out of my chair and oh shit I pull my back - anyone with a bad back understands it does not take much to screw it up. I walk a around a little and know I couldn't make it, so to bed I went while the others left to go hunting. After the others got back from hunting - I headed home.

Totals: Did not shoot, did not see a duck

Back is better but not ready to duck hunt - YET, but will know by Thursday if I can make the last weekend of the first split

Durn... figured Friday would have been good. It was good to us but that's just because of the local teal mob. Didn't see any meaningful traffic all morning.

Been there MB! You’re right, doesn’t take much but you can’t wiggle your big toe without the back screaming at you after that happens, much less hunt. Can’t imagine your ride home was any fun.

OUCH!!!! MB, I feel your pain, and hope you recover quickly!!!!! My wife recently bought the mini portable version of the Theeragun Pulsator, and the relief it has given me has been significant, money well spent. The charge lasts for a long time, and you could even take it to the camp.

My little back episode was not as bad as some in the past, not 100% but feeling good enough to try and hunt this weekend. The forecast does not look promising, but we have killed ducks in this kind of weather before. I will be headed to the camp about 4:00 this afternoon - good luck to all.

Go get 'em! Hope your back holds up for weekend; you'll get a couple weeks off after Sunday morning.

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 60 degrees, wind S none to 5 mph

Lake Charles TV said zero visibility and when got to the lease it was crystal clear. Wind was zero for about an hour then slowly picked up to 5 mph from the south and the ducks responded to the slight wind. At one point in the morning we saw at least 1,000 Gadwall flying high from North to South we did not get any to break, think they were too high to hear a call. The Gadwall responded very well, but still no teal in our marsh.

Total: 11 - Gadwall, 1 - Greenwing teal

Saturday, Dec 4, 2021

Hunters: Buddy and I with Abby

Temp: 65 degrees, wind again zero to 5 mph from the east turning to the south

Not as many ducks today as yesterday. Still no fog for us today. We did not see any high flights like yesterday, and the ducks we did see did not respond as well as yesterday. We stayed until 11:00, the wind changed from E to S about 10:00 and that saved our hunt.

Totals: 7 - Gadwall, 5 - Greenwing teal

Sunday, Dec 5, 2021

Hunters: Buddy, and I with Abby

Temp: 60 degrees, wind E 2 - 5 mph - the fog found us this morning

Off and on fog from the camp to the lease, no fog when loading the boat - then pulling away from the landing could not see a thing. We have markers in the marsh for our foggy mornings, but could not find the first marker and rode around the lake at the landing for about 10 minutes, then finally found a marker and within 1 minute it was clear. Got to the blind got set up and the ducks were moving, had 6 ducks in the blind within 15 minutes then the fog came in. An hour and 1/2 did not fire a shot. The fog cleared and the ducks started moving.

Totals: 4 - Gadwall, 6 - Greeenwing teal, 2 - Pintail drakes

Went to camp with very low expectations and ended up with a great weekend of hunting - you never know - that's why you have to go

Hunters: Keith and I with Abby

Temp: 71 degrees, wind SE 3 - 5 mph moderate fog, got hot after the fog burnt off.

The mosquitos were so bad at the boat landing you could not take a breath or open your eyes with a light on - worst I have ever seen. Once we got to the blinds it was not too bad - yard guard and off held them at bay.
The fog was not terrible but still enough not to see ducks very far out. Keith is a little slow shouldering the gun and getting set, and early on most of the ducks were on his side. Very few big ducks early, Keith could not get ready quick enough for the teal.
After 8:30 the Grays started to move, only had 1 and 2s but enough came.
We went in Keith's boat this morning - he wears glasses and the fog made it difficult for him to see, there were a few scary moments on the boat ride.

Total: 9 - Gadwall, 3 - greenwing teal

Date: December 19, 2021

Hunters: Keith and I with Abby

Temp: 45 degrees, wind 15 - 20 mph NW

What a difference a day makes, the storm came through Saturday afternoon and the weather got kinda bad. We had a 10 foot blowup snowman and he is gone - the wind took him.
Keith and I hunted our #4 blind which is on our smallest pond, normally our best blind for windy conditions. We saw very few ducks, always happens to us - we get a strong front come through and the ducks are gone, it will take about 3 days for them to find their way back.
#4 blind has heavy grass and both sides and behind the blind, the pond is only about 30 yards across the front with more heavy grass on the other side. If you don't have a dog, no a good dog you will not retrieve many ducks, Abby did a great job.

The wind helped Keith have time to shoot, when he gets ready he is a decent shot.

Total: 2 - greenwing teal, 2 - Pintail (drakes), 5 - Gadwall

Good times MB! Those foggy runs to the blind, when you don't have control of the wheel, can certainly pucker your sphincter muscles  Glad y'all killed some birds!!!!!!

Hunters: Buddy, Larry, and I with Abby

Temp: 70 degrees wind S 5 - 10 mph mostly cloudy

The clouds and wind made the temp bearable also kept the mosquitos off of us. Saw lots of teal early, but most stayed east of us in large wads. About 8:30 the Grays started moving and it was game on, Abby picked up 2 Grays at a time - 3 times.
Larry hunts east of Alexandria and their hunting has been very poor - hunted 8 days killed 4 ducks.
Our water has dropped 4 - 6 inches helping us hold the teal.

Total: 6 - Greenwing teal, 12- Gadwall
