Getting all packed up to depart early Friday morning for Kansas. Plan to hunt Saturday through Wednesday and looks like we'll be hitting the weather is going to treat us well. Hoping for more sun than clouds but colder weather should have birds moving.

Corey and I will form a duck boat caravan with our cousins as we head northwest from my house Friday.

It's been a really really busy summer and early fall for me, so I'm excited about disconnecting from Weyerhaeuser for a solid week and enjoying an adventure in a new place.

First day was a little slow but on evening hunt I put a speck feet down at 15 yards and that was fun. Today was a little better.....lot of pintails

Little slow today. Clouds and light east wind... plus the local fighter jet squadron was practicing overhead all morning and ducks don't like that. Shot some mallard and pintail...not quite as many birds as yesterday but believe we could have killed more if it wouldn't have been as noisy.

Bonus...gathered some fresh turnips that the refuge had planted along roads as a cover crop.

Not as many ducks as you hoped for, but more ducks and more fun than I had.

Lot more mallards, pintails and turnips than I harvested today up here in chilly Des Moines.
