Date: 11/14/2021

Time: Morning pheasant hunt; afternoon "duck hunt"

Location: CRP/WRP/Lake in Northwest Iowa; first couple of places were good but not great and we couldn't finish our limits so we went back to the same plots where we hunted the day before and finished up

Cloud Cover: Cloudy

Wind Direction and Velocity: NW 5-10

Temperature: 20s

Waterfowl Activity: Lots of pheasants. Not many ducks on the ponds or flying

Waterfowl Responsiveness: Pheasant were holding tight and many flushed behind the line

Hunters: 14 for pheasant; 2 for ducks

Dog(s): In the thick cover where we pheasant hunted today the dogs found 80% of the birds we shot. We would have been in bad shape without them. Willie saved us on our "duck hunt" by chasing our crippled teal all over the lake.

Special Equipment: None

Curses: None

Other: Saw three teal come land in a pond while we were scouting for ducks. Pulled a sneak on them and got 2 GWT.

Birds By Species: 42 pheasants; 2 GWT

Dog(s): Another good day from the dogs.

Special Equipment: None

Date: 11/20/2021

Time: Morning

Location: Rolltop blind - harvested rice

Cloud Cover: Completely clear

Wind Direction and Velocity: Almost nothing

Temperature: 50-60

Moon phase: Full

Special Notes: Roux's 14th birthday!

Waterfowl Activity: Ducks were slow at first light and didn't pick up much after that. Seems to be a bunch of new snows in the area and watching them gave the entertainment for the morning. High southbound "migratory" duck flights were steady to the west of us but nothing over our fields.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: Very little flying our way. Had one group of gw teal do it perfectly though. About 20 birds that were a ways out. Gave them a loud hail call and they immediately banked and headed our way and bombed right in.

Hunters: 3 hunters (Will and Jack) plus Grant

Guns: SBE2

Malfunctions: Nothing

Dog(s): Roux

Special Equipment: Mojo teal

Curses: We need wind and weather. Beautiful day to play golf or fish, not duck hunt.

Kudos: Happy to have Roux with us picking up birds on his 14th birthday.

Birds By Species: 5 GW Teal + 1 snow goose

Notes: Cleaned the skinniest duck I have ever seen. Not sure how this bird even flew. When Roux brought it back, I grabbed it and it felt like a dove. You can see how the breast bone protrudes up.

Good on Roux (and partner Grant).

Were way too many birds like that in the lead days. If its was green around the butt hole, that would be my guess.
